Maybe you should consider AA or calling a friend instead?

Nope....this will be a E28 friend support group. AA is full of "Higher Power" bullshit.

No disrespect intended if you have found them to help.

Really? Why do you need support? Unless it's an addiction it should be super easy to quit consuming a favorite food or drink? Do you lack the will power to stop? Dare I imply that you are weak of mind.

I am not being an asshole. You dismissed AA and implied that everyone who has ever attended were weak minded idiots. If you think that you need group help to quick consuming alcohol than maybe you have a real problem. I could quit consuming my favorite soda (non caffeinated) tomorrow and never look back if it was something I felt necessary.

I am being serious not an asshole.

Then I apologizes for my FO and Moron comments.

AA is great for many and not great for many more. Cold turkey for six months is my method.

Step one: admitted we were powerless over alcohol.

And the higher power concept is really pretty neat when you view it with an unimpaired lens.

And planning the next drink enough to discuss it, and the quitting, and the timeframe and then becoming confrontational when asked about it hits on a number of DSM-IV criteria for abuse and/or dependence.

And so does the overrun of and.....

Duke: I support your idea 110%. If you wanna get a thread going in this regard, I think thats great, I'll be there.. You've already acknowledged that the "higher power" remark was inconsiderate...it was.

TCD: shame on you for overstepping proper decorum regarding this subject matter. If you don't see that, I'll PM you my phone number and explain it to you in no uncertain terms.

Anyone who even remotely wants help reducing their alcohol intake deserves support: in whatever form will yield the desired result....whether thats AA, this site, or a knitting club.

-Happy New Year fellas.

So YOU decide what is proper decorum now?

I agree 100% but we can offer support without making a sticky or forming a lynch mob.

An interesting thread indeed!!
Everyone is defensive because we are all obsessive compulsive at heart and hence the love affair with old BMWs, fine women, watches, wine and food.
I'd stop imbibing tomorrow if it weren't for the D.T.'S. (They can be nasty). . .

I don't drink enough for it to matter. Just a beer or two with dinner once or twice a week with the occasional binge( see coldswede above). There is a lot of alcaholism in my family, so I make an effort to not drink too much.

Yes, TCD, by calling Duke "weak minded" because he wanted a forum of "friendlies" to help with alcohol, and to suggest that stopping diet soda was equivalent...was dead wrong. He can tell me to fuck off all he wants. He's still wrong, and the offer still stands.

Please explain how it is different if the alcohol consumption isn't an addiction?

No longer appropriate in a public forum. If you want clarification, leave me a PM, and when I get off my trip with a few minutes I'll explain it to you.

Is your motivation to hang a placard of addiction on somebody, or just offer help to someone? Which is it?

In all seriousness, good luck. When I gave up caffeine in Oct of 09 I went cold turkey as well. My head only hurt for 4 days and I was only tired for a week.

My name is Chris, and I like to drink alcohol.

Not anonymous, and still not an alcoholic.

And just for the record TCD was even more of a bitch when he gave up Coke cold turkey!

It's a simple method to follow progress, one day at a time.
719 days and counting for me.

Stopping any habit is tough, no matter what it is. Breaking an addiction is next to impossible w/o support.
