anyone ready for that extra foot we're getting? I still have 30 inches or so on my lawn/cul de sac, so im basically fucked. I have a picture of my M5 hiding in a snowbank in the other snow thread, and just this evening I had to help three stoner teenagers get their camry up an icy hill. I mean im only 22 but those kids were like 18 and they were so useless/amazed that I got their car up the hill, it made me feel like an old man

damn kids and your music...

I'm beat down now. I mean totally. :bawl: I feel like I'm in NY again, except the snow infrastructure sucks here.
Another 6-12" today, starting with a buncha sleet.
I JUST got my cars dug out, too.

I was telling my wife, "Well, at this point, 6 inches doesn't sound that bad." We both had a good laugh at that one.

Just got back from taking the gf to work (no snow days at the hospial) and at 6am the roads in Baltimore city were deserted and surprisingly clear except for some sleet/ice that we got overnight. But the blizzard warning doesn't start until 10am so will probably be a different story by then.

Yep! Different story indeed. When I ran 7 miles last night at 11 p.m., there were about 6" of fresh snow on the ground and it was falling fast. After my run, I shoveled the driveway and walk, and went to sleep. At 7:00 a.m., the snow had stopped, with maybe 3-4" of new snow on the shoveled areas. I thought it was done. Wrong!

By 9 or so, it was snowing again heavily, and it sitl is now at 1 p.m. The areas I shoveled last night are completely filled in again. I'm starting to worry about the roof; there's gotta be 20" of wet, heavy snow up there now.

Definitely different story here now as well..45mph gusts and 2" per hour since about 9am. Just built a 6'x10' snow cave in the backyard...I think I'm now officially out of things to do after being home more or less for three days.

Are you kidding? I was at work the last two days, home today. Plenty to do, though. Unfortunately most of it is work. :-(

This shit is getting old, fast! Successfully, cleared another 10" off my driveway this morning but it's getting harder for my single stage snow-thrower to launch the snow up and over the 5 foot berms on either side of my drive. I just hope the main drive belt holds up because it's 14 years old and it has never gotten the kind of use and abuse it's been seeing in the last 5 days. I'm afraid to open the cover to even look at it. I keep whispering to her that if she doesn't let me down, I'll give her a nice new drive belt and a fresh coat of Rustoleum silver after the weather clears. I've already cleaned the carburetor bowl, jet and spark plug to keep her going during these last few days but if the belt breaks I'm done for. Yes, I'm down to bargaining with my snow-thrower

... as well you should be...

I've been trying to buy a snow shovel since December.
My spade is getting beat the hell up.

12" of new snow here, with 3' drifts. I haven't ventured out today - waiting for the wind to die down.

12" in NY metro area  @ 32 F

Been a while since we had this much, but thankfully its all wet and compounded, maybe the city won't use any salt (wishful thinking).

Damn, I just had to look under the auger belt cover and sure enough my belt ist kaput. No more snow-thrower for Lee, just me and my shovel until things clear up.

Serves me right for never ever doing any preventative maintenance on the machine. Examination of the belt revealed that the rubber has completely dried out and that the belt was probably cracked to hell before I even started these last 5 days of repeated use and abuse. All things considered, I'm pretty impressed with that humble v-belt.

I found out that today was the first time in 8 years that NAS Patuxent River has been closed.
I don't have to be in till noon tomorrow, but I might just call it a day at this point.
We'll see.

Shoveling this morning was like trying to move feathers. That was a nice reprieve from 20lbs of wet snow with each shovelful. I just used my pushbroom to move the snow.
That was nice.

edit: Full ABS stops on not so paved roads.... um, whoops.
I keep forgetting that I'm not driving a 3 ton Suburban.
Boy am I glad that shit actually works.
