I'll throw in my two-cents about Chicago as a potential venue...

Don't do it. Traffic is awful within 50 miles of our fine city, and anything farther away than that is just flat cornfields. The lack of congestion and availability of nice twisties in the area around Zentrum is something that does not exist in IL.

That said, I'm all for helping out with a Midwestern 5er Fest. I'm still a noobie, and have very little exposure to local club/track scenes, but I'm more than willing to help where possible.
All this could change, but I don't think it could happen for 2006. Some long range planning and strategizing by some of us folks in the Chicago/Milwaukee/Wisconsin area would be a good idea. I'm seeing a need for a gathering over beer and cars. I just hate that.
Let's do it.

Well, having lived there myself 8 years ago, those were my thoughts, too.

Was I having cognitive dissonance with your name? You tag said "Ryan"....for the life of me I didn't hear you introduce yourself as "Ryan" Is it Mitch or Ryan??

It's either. Mitch is a nickname (based on my middle name) some friends use, and what I typically use for a screen-name. For the record, I think you may have been a bit buzzed when we first met. I know I was.

An hour away? That's highly undesireable.
I understand that. Were we lucky, we might manage to get our nasty ol' R compounds on RA's 'Motorplex' - a seriously cool kart track on the inside between Turns 6-7 and the Kink. If you've ever raced on a road course track like that, you know what a riot it is - and no cone setters really necessary.

There are other possible venues closer but it's locally very difficult to drag the Milwaukee crowd (SCCA and Wisconsin Autocross Inc.) anywhere north of the Ozaukee County line, so we generally haven't tried them.

Perhaps you should have more "situational awareness" before you critique the setup.

Relax, pardner. It was not critique; it was merely observation. I did read your post closely. I have also laid out courses with the safety of novices primarily in mind. I see that I could have been misunderstood when saying that I've seen faster local courses.

I didn't mean to say that you wouldn't lay one out given the opportunity; only that you didn't this time. I was responding more to those who would prefer a drag race event over an autocross. I suspect we're on the same page here with respect to that proposal. %)
