sailing across the south pacific... somewhere between FIJI and Vanuatu... moving along at about 4 knots.
on night watch, alone on deck, watching the sun rise, listening to great tunes on my new iPod.

Decide to grab a bucket of seawater to clean the cockpit a little. Used the bucket and rope, and tossed it over the back of the boat. Rope gets tight and I start to haul the bucket in.

as I move, the rope catches the belt clip for the iPod, and in the blink of an eye, I feel a tug on my ears as the headphones unplug and I watch the iPod splash into the water. Music stops...

over 4000 metres of water... Oh crap! I stayed on the seas for another 4 months.. but no more music.

Thread title is "Awww Crap Moments." While not car/cop related, the picture of suddenly being iPod-less while sailing across the south Pacific, that is an awww crap moment.

No need for anyone to get bent out of shape though.

Dad and I were retutning from up north with my Grand parents who stayed with him during the winter months in Florida as it was too cold for a pair of 90 year olds.
The next to last trip prior to their passing might have been expected by my Grandfather who insisted on Dad taking his quite extensive gun collection along. We had enough weapons and ammo in the trunk that the Volvo 260 GL I was driving looked as if it had no rear springs. What he hell, it was a demo for getting salesman of the month.
We come screaming down a stretch of Interstate in Missouri, over a hill and low and behold, road block, Missouri Highway Patrol. Never saw that airplane either.
It was not the speeding stop, it was the fact that in the trunk along with other guns, rifles & shotguns there were two Thompson machine guns sporting U.S. Govt stamps on the recievers. Grandad was early on a licensed "gunsmith" and had performed breach work on the guns which were forgotten and never picked up by the Fed agents from the 1930's.
The trooper asked what was in the trunk, my Grandad from the rear seat said we were running guns, the Trooper laughed asked my Dad who the funny old fella was sitting in the back seat wearing the hunting cap was, shook his hand and told me to move out.
Other than the hawk that glanced off the windshield while chasing a rodent across the interstate acouple minutes from home, that was a very exciting trip, I distinctly recall uttering those very discriptive words, Awwwwwshit, here we go.

Well fuck the without complaint part. I just got a letter from the court letting me know the fine will be $526.00  (I don't even want to know what the traffic school fee is)

The last ticket I got was for speeding well over a decade ago. The fine was $78.00. WTF?

This just happened about two weeks ago;

My friend has a '98 Honda Prelude that he swears is quicker than my car (in reality, I've already conceded that they are dead even to about 70mph).
So one night we're heading to another friend's house to pick up my phone that I forgot  .
We get next to each other at a light, and it's on - I wind up to about 3k and let the clutch out, he still manages a slight jump on me (VTEC  ) but I get ahead in second and hold the lead until the next light, at which we are turning right, then almost immediately left into a neighborhood.
I pull into my friend's driveway, and before I even move to open the door, I notice a Crown Vic with a crashbar coming around the corner with the spotlight alternating between my friend's car and mine. Oh shit...
I get out, grab my phone that my friend left outside for me, and notice that the car has rolled past ours. Well, that would be great if he hadn't turned around at the end of the street!
So now the cop is heading back up the street with my friend in the Prelude in front of me - the cop rolls right past him, then slows down to about 2mph when he gets close to me (shit! shit! shit!), but what happened next was totally unexpected; he took off! Fast! I can only imagine he got a call right as he was about to stop me, but I really don't care what happened.

Definitely an "Aw Crap" moment.

Here, the traffic school fee is like $120 or so. An HOV ticket is $609. There was a guy in my class that paid $120 and went to traffic school.

Unrelated to driving.

I have a runners hat with a red blinking light on it for night running. Sometimes I turn it on for kicks and giggles around campus, or at practice, because I'm a goof like that. Yesterday I was in the cafeteria getting food and I passed this really good looking girl. She kept looking up at me, like she was looking me over. I passed her, got some food, and as I was coming back she did it again! So I thought, maybe she thinks your cute, or something. So I shot her a smile and a hey, and she giggled. I went to sit down and my friend from the track team looks at me and asks, "When are you going to turn that blinking hat off, you look mentally challenged!"

AW crap. She wasn't interested, she just thought I was retarded.

One time I was on this long back road in N Carolina in my E46. I had just Sharked it and wanted to see what the top speed was. Well I got to about 145 MPH on a long stretch and suddenly theres this dude on a moped in the far right part of the right lane! I get into the left lane, but it was crazy cuz the road was mad crowned! He was 500 feet in front of me by the time I was all the way over, but that shit had me shaking afterward!

....and one time I was on Elbow Road going 125 MPH and and what I think was an unmarked Charger came out with his lights on. But I just went 10/10ths ( But still staying in the right lane) the rest of the way down Elbow and parked in a buddies backyard!

Yes I know this is incredibly stupid! And I swear I don't do this stuff ALL the time!

My buddy who was stationed in japan verifies this to be true, but they do have cameras to capture your plate and send you the ticket... so I have been told. He was a 1st Class PO in the Navy Stationed with VF-154 before they de-commed.

On vacation years ago in Vegas in the E12, stopped at a light at night, no traffic at all, when I glance into my rear view mirror and according to my wife, got out "oh sh" before impact. :brick: No censorship, it just happened that fast, I didn't have time to get it all out. The good part was we drove it home 700 miles, it saw another 60K and the pickup left most of it's bodily fluids on the pavement and went off on the end of a tow truck. The bad thing is it was an insurance total and never the same again with a folded quarter panel. :bawl:
