My V8 powered M535i
nice project, can't wait to see it progressed more, as for people saying it's a shame about the 740il, it is in one respect but they are ten a penny and V8 powered E28's are not, also you are correct in saying that by tearing down a complete car you get every bit from the car that you will need in order to get it running. So good on ya, i'll be doing a similar thing with my project. A V8 E28 will sound lovely too.
Well it's been again a long time since i wrote anything on this forum. But i've still got the Beemer and i haven't had much time to work on it the last year, i've been in australia for 3 months soo that doesn't help either and just verry busy at work due to the fact that i planned to go to australia last year.
But i made some slow progress in the mean time tho.
As we speak the new bracket(for the lever that sits on the firewall) for the braking system is being machined and i think i've got it in the beginning of next week. Than that will be the last test fit for the braking system soo than the engine can come out again and i'm able to finish welding my headers.
Since it's a SUPER tight fit with the headers and the rest of the stuff in the engine bay i'm gonna need to head the heads up and make a few dents in them. i've got 3mm clearance on the front off the steeringbox and 2 mm on the other side of the steeringbox If somebody wants to copy my idea than just use a 40mm tube instead of 50mm.. saves a lot of room
!!! which i really could use... but never the less we keep the 50's
I've got al the stuff for the exhaust now, mufflers and couplers the hole lot. all stainless! My muffler setup will be headers 50mm(per bank it goes 4 to 2 than to 1x60mm) than i've got a muffler for 2x60mm which goes into a single 70mm and than on the back i've got another mufflers which makes the single 70mm into 2 60mm again for the exhaust tips.
soo as soon as i finish the headers and stuff i'm gonna make the exhaust and plump it all up soo i can start it. I've bought a brand new M5 Radiator for the cooling and a Spall electric fan setup will help me to keep the engine cool, since i don't use the stock fan anymore.
Well i gonna work on the car again a soon as the temperatures go up a little bit and i can heat up the garage again.
nealglobalauto: i didn't need to modify the oilpan. The engine how ever lays pretty close to the firewall. I can't fit the original cooling liquid reservoir of the V8 cause there's just no space for it.
The steeringbox clearance is just how good you can weld... cause it's a super tight fit with the 50mm pipes.. if you use 40mm you will have 5mm more space for sure.
well i will try to update it again ASAP.
greetz,

greetz,
Well in the mean time i had some time to work on my beemer again!
I've finished the exhaustheaders and got the exhaust done till the end of the gearbox. I just need to put in 2 lambdasonde nuts and than that done.
Tommorrow i'm gonna cut the hole for the starter engine soo i can fit that thing on and i can start wiring and plumbing the engine up.
Here are some pics of the work.

Question for you! What steering are you going to use? Are you using the stock steering box, or fabbing up a rack? Also, could you post some shots of each side of the motor with the headers? My partner Phil has the same setup in his e28 4.0 with a 6 speed, but the headers are a little crude. Your pipes look magnificant! Thanks,

Where abouts were you down here?
mostly i was in the Goondiwindi QLD area, cause i did the harvestrun up there. But after that i drove down south to a little town called Willaura VIC and after harvesting there i went to Burleigh Heads QLD to just sit at the beach for a couple of weeks.
