Well there you go, from your link - A motion, in parliamentary procedure, is a formal proposal by a member of a deliberative assembly that the assembly take certain action.

Like I said earlier, others are morons in this thread, not I.

I motion that we are now finished with this foolishness.
From the same link, the person making the motion is the mover, and he says "I move that ..."

Duke, I must say, the way you are using "motion" is not verbed correctly with the definitions even you provide.

It sounds sophisticated though! ;)

*By the way, before you attack me, "verbed" is a word: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/verbed
Verb: verbed:
Simple past tense and past participle of verb.

A way to fix your statements would be to say "I would like to make the motion that we.... blah blah." Make is the verb and motion is the noun. "Motion" as a verb is a physical act.

This indicates that a motion is a noun.

Motion = noun

Move = verb

I know that's already been said, but in my several experiences with parliamentary procedure, you would be immediately corrected.

Duke, just accept the fact that you were incorrect and take it as a learning experience. You're fighting a losing battle if you think you can convince those who are well-versed in grammar that the proper statement is, "I motion to..."

+1 It's no big thing, Duke! Sorry man, I can't help it. My mom was an English major and I had to investigate this.

It sounded good though! ;)

Aye!

But, unfortunately, I'm fairly certain seconding your own motion is against the rules of proper procedure. :laugh:
