Just buy a Febi and get it done with. If you used the MTC the first time, it was the wrong one. It's for automatics, and the bearing sits higher. The UroParts is crap and the dust shield doesn't even fit in there.

I have used it in the past. They are all shit imo.

I might try the e34 one and get a Febi e28 as well just in case. I'll let you guys know the outcome. I may also take my Uro Parts one and fill it with 80 durometer urethane and see what that does to it. This whole few months I have been dealing with the damn CSB I feel like it all comes down to the freakin' shit rubber on them, hence the urethane idea.

Right now my car is perfectly smooth unless you get on it, but I drive a super eta so of course that is all the time. ;) I'm happy right now just not hearing the constant thump on start-off like I have for the past 2 years.

I could see it fitting or possibly not.

Check this photo of the e34 non-540 center bearing

It does fit, i have one on my car, shit is seriously tough as hell. If you destroy it, it deserves to be destroyed.
I installed a uro parts csb on an e30, lasted 3 months

Matt, no installation issues? Anything that needed to be done differently?

If not, we should start recommending everyone order the e34 part when doing a CSB replacement. Is Febi the OE brand on the e34?

Looks like it fits to me.

For the non-540 e34 CSB it looks like the brand choices are (in price order from most to least) BMW, Lemförder, Ina, Febi & MTC

I would imagine that spending the $50+ dollars on the top three brands would be recommended?

Also, what the hell does PINGAS mean anyway?

Odd. Everyone I've ever had has been like the pic with the closed side pointed forward.
Mike, the splines are on the rear of the front half, so the photo is still correct with "open side pointed forward."

Put one together today, I stand corrected, the pic is perfect,

I mounted the bearing on that one, but it is correct!

Mr Bimmerguy2002, did the e34 CSB fit? Did the gunked CSB make any difference?

Pelican has the Meistersatz or the Febi. But it does not list the Febi for the year of my 535i (7/85)

http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/catalog ... .htm#item7

Which one should I buy?

Did anyone have a shop do this? if so what was the cost?

I know this is super old, but I just went through replacing my CSB twice due to a crappy quality aftermarket part.

Like many others, my $30 center support bearing made by Rein Automotive failed within 30 miles. It was knocking and vibrating just as bad as the 36-year-old OEM one I removed ('79 E12). Upon visual inspection it looks fine, but the rubber is just so flimsy.

I replaced it with a Meyle E34 535i part for $27 and it is MUCH more sturdy. With the Rein part, I could push the driveshaft into the tunnel by hand, no wonder it was banging around while driving.

With the E34 part installed, I can barely move the driveshaft by hand at all, and it's completely smooth while driving.

Also, to remove the bearing, I used this $19 puller from Harbor Freight since the Autozone ones are all too small:

Highly recommend the 8mm fuel line with RTV in the "open" part... Every little bit helps.

I also replaced the CSB on my 88 528e with the E34 unit, and its far heftier.
This is just like the upgrade to using only the 88 528e diff mount. A better part is a better part, who cares what it was meant for.

Bringing back an old thread. Is this the puller that was used on the photo? https://www.harborfreight.com/8-in-thre ... 69224.html
Thanks in advance!

Looks like it... They have a 3 puller set too that I use regularly for light duty stuff like this. I think you can get it for under $30 with a coupon. The rubber will likely come off and if so you will have to pull the bearing itself off.

Thanks for the reply. The bearing is disentigrated, all what's left on the shaft is runner. Tried to cut it but afraid to hit the driveshaft.

Nicking the D/S is no big deal, it's steel, not a piece of glass. You obviously don't want to go halfway in, but slight damage won't be a problem. Consider too, with a nice deep cut into, but not thru the bearing race a blow with a cold chisel should break it. It still won't slide off, but it won't have the strength of a clamp all the way around. Think of a "C" shape, not an "O".

Thanks, the chisel approach worked 100%!
