Why? I might be missing something there...

And don't tell me you just want a lower-mileage motor.
Haha, it's nothing like that. The car sat in the Arizona sun for about a decade behind the POs house, and because of that the valve guide seals leak. The motor blows enough smoke that I cannot get it to pass it's last emission test before I get classic plates, so since I have an entire B35 conversion sitting at my shop (motor, harness, exhaust, ECU, AFM, etc) I'm just going to swap the motor and take my time rebuilding the euro B34... Maybe do something a bit more wild with it...

I like the idea of keeping the car as euro as possible, but a chipped B35 with headers should run pretty well too right? I've already got the chip and the headers!

If it's leaky valve guide seals, it's because it ran smokin' hot in the Arizona summer, not just sitting in the sun.

It's funny how different parts of the country are hard on different parts of the car. Out west, there's no rust to contend with, but the drivetrain and interiors don't hold up as well. Up in the northeast, they live longer in the nice cool area, and the interiors don't get so thrashed by the sun, but the bodys rust away.

Mine has 147,xxx. My previous 325e had more than 300K when my dad sold it (the guy bought it just to get the exhaust, ANSA racing exhaust with headers, double pipe all the way back).

88 528e auto = 102k miles.

I kinda want something to happen so I can justify replacing the engine and tranny with a m30b35.

260k on the turbo car.
Fresh rings, bearings, rockers and shafts about 30k ago.
Original pistons, rods, crank and block, valves and head.
Approaching 400k on the tranny. Sent to Metric Mechanic at 300k, rebuilt with original gear stack, new bearings, etc.

I am glad to see these e28's can handle lost of miles!

I have confidence now because I bought mine with the intention of giving it to my son next year as his first car.

Very impressive!

85' 535i with approx. 130,000 miles, I think the odo gears are about to strip though, it ticks and jumps somtimes, so it probably has alittle bit more on it, but original it still has the engine and runs great.

My odo broke at 110k, so I predict I'm some where around 180k now!

As of yesterday:

260,000 miles!

That's 20k in 8 months. Only came home on a rollback once when the fuel pump decided to play mind games in 130 degree heat. Other than that, a couple of oil changes and a bunch of unnecessary upgrades. :D
