One strut knuckle bolt was missing, two sheared. These were loc-tited and I checked torque on them prior to my road trip.

Yikes, I bet that made for a wild ride. You wouldn't think those would be under much load with the way it's keyed in place, but very early E3s used 8MM bolts and by 71 they were up to the 10MM they are now. For a reason I guess.
