Update time for 2018!

Front bumper is off and the new oil cooler hoses are on. AC hoses to going on Wednesday/ Thursday, re gas system with R134, final tune and then its off to the exhaust shop Saturday morning to inspect the exhaust leak which is coming off cylinder 1.

She looks to be coming along nicely, great work! Did you source the oil cooler lines thru BMW or have them made? My line from the filter head going to the oil cooler is weeping at the point where the hard line is connected to the rubber line on my 85 M535i. Would love to replace them both. Please keep posting! Joel

The oil cooler hoses are genuine BMW hoses. I bought them off ebay and they came from Latvia.

AC is ice cold and the heater is very hot! Everything working as per normal.

*New genuine Mercedes Benz heater valve insert, the MTC ones are rubbish and the genuine BMW ones are about $170 USA dollars, the Mercedes part is about $40 USA.

I've not heard of this being done before. Do you have a part no.?

Update time!

The last few weeks I have been enjoying the M535i!

The exhaust shop had the car for a morning and split the exhaust section from the extractors to the centre muffler, they fitted heavy duty clamps and added fresh exhaust sealing paste.


The only issue I currently have is the radio cuts out when the hazard switch is pressed when the engine is off. I also did not realise that the head unit does not power down the antenna when not on "tuner" source. This frustrates the hell out of me!!

I have decided to go back old school and install the original Becker Mexico. I was given a Becker by my mechanic last week and the Becker owners manual and radio code card that I acquired months earlier matches the serial number on the Becker Mexico I now have!


The car is back into the shop tomorrow morning to install the original Becker, I was sent by a good friend the original wiring loom etc! I hate when people chop the factory loom to fit aftermarket stereos!

While the centre console is apart, I will look into the non functional cigarette lighter!

Update!

I had to pull the centre console apart again!

Cigarette lighter is now working. The cigarette lighter socket itself was not attached to the AC centre grille panel. I installed a new cigarette lighter socket and glued it to the A/C grille panel. I also put in a new lighter element!





The factory radio loom is now back in the car to power the Becker Mexcio 795! I have returned the wiring loom to how it was in 1986!! Nothing I hate more than cutting factory harness'. Unfortunately the Becker unit itself will not power up, so I have sent it away to be overhauled. I confirmed the wiring was ok as I borrowed a friends unit and the sweet sound of Whitney Huston echoed through the speakers!


I have also sent away the air box to be sandblasted and powder coated. I previously had it painted by a body shop but I was not happy with the work! They used way to much paint so the BMW lettering was hardly visible.

Airbox and the air flow meter bracket are back from being powder coated and sand blasted!

Wow they turned out amazing. I specifically asked for all the BMW emblems and part numbers to be visible.

*I am still waiting to hear from the radio repair shop in relation to the Becker Mexico.
*I have ordered a new TPS in order to diagnose a surging issue while the car is cruising.
*A Bosch oxygen sensor has also been ordered to troubleshoot the above issue, the o2 sensor currently in the car is 18 months old but it is an aftermarket sensor and of unknown quality.
*Finally I have ordered a B34 chip from SSSquid tuning, I have not been impressed with how the car runs with the Mark D chip. I will try the above parts first to see if that makes a difference first!

Why did you install the chip in first place? Because the headers? How do you like those headers Anyway? How well does the ceramic coating work? Does it feel hotter compared to cast iron manifold?

The Mark D Chip is regarded as the best chip on the market. The chip is great but with the RHD headers and the full stainless system the chip it not perfectly tailored to run correctly. I have tried this chip in a stock b34 and it drove great!

The headers are amazing, the original cast iron manifold is very restrictive as is the stock exhaust system. I can't comment on the ceramic coating, it is suppose to keep engine temperatures down etc!

Update time!

I replaced the cracking boot from the air filter to the air flow meter. I though the boot was meant to be hard! Amazing difference between new and old!


I installed a genuine Bosch O2 sensor, the old one was an aftermarket variant

I fitted a brand new idle control valve as the old one was a little lazy. I also tested the old tps with a multi meter and it did absolutely nothing, I fitted a second hand one until the new one arrives.



In regards to the surging issue I tried the SSSquid chip but the issue still purists! I will book the car into the shop next week for it to be looked at.

I am running the car without the O2 sensor, the car does not surge and the idle is much nicer. I am currently working with Mark D to richen up his chip on idle and on cruising.

I have noticed for the last couple months that the diff is starting to get a little noisy on deceleration. Too add to this the mechanic that originally cracked my gearbox casing also changed the LSD clutches so I was not very confident in his work..

I got my gearbox man to do the diff as he does excellent work. I am also rebuilding the cv boots as they are starting to crack. Pictures below:

The diff and axle shafts will be back in the car tomorrow. I am refilling the diff with 75w90 Redline Oil.
The LSD clutches which were 14 months old have been replaced with new clutches for peace of mind, everything inside the diff looked spot on.

While the driveshaft, exhaust etc were in the way I told Simon (gearbox and diff specialist) to check a tiny drop of oil which is coming out of the gearbox. The Getrag 265/5 box is incredibly common to leak out of the breather, especially when driving hard as the fluid foams. He extended the breather a little with some plastic tubing. The gear linkage had to be removed to access the breather as it is so close to the gearbox tunnel.

Update time!

I have had the AC compressor rebuilt a further two times, unfortunately it is still leaking green oil so I have ordered new seals for it from Jay Stratton as I am not confident the AC shop is using the correct seals.

I have also been working on small minor details on the car. A couple pictures below. .

New vacuum hose on the bottom of the intake manifold for the interior air sensor as it was making a hissing sound.

Next I will rebuild the rear brakes and look into a clunk from the rear of the car, I suspect the brake calipers are sticking.
*I will also install my new front rotors and pads as the front brakes are warped.
*I will drop the front subframe and send it off for sand blasting and powdercoating.
*While this is done I will install new Moosehead Spherical bushes
*I will also install another steering box, as I still have the knock in my steering
