Crap. Shipping a non-running car out east is bound to be expensive.

I will hand someone $1400 if they drop this car off at my driveway this Saturday. You get it, pay the guy $900, get it to my house and profit $500.

Place a CL ad in your area. Or ask seller to deliver. Just ideas.

I think the guy in Phoenix raised the price on that car, either way I wouldn't buy a car from that neighborhood unless it was dirt cheap

New around here but I figured I'd contribute my finds on West Coast Craigslist.

(Not my) very clean low-mileage E28 535i (1986) on Craigslist in Bay Area, CA.

Owner claims 116,700 miles, manual transmission.

Image

Restored E28 535is (1988) on Craigslist in Santa Barbara, CA.

Owner claims 227,000 miles, with thorough restore of plastics and frame rust. Looks pretty nice.

Image

Decent E28 535is Automatic (1987) on Craigslist in Stockton, CA.

Owner claims 148,000 miles as of 4 years ago. Claims owner for 14 years. Looks clean.

Image

Curious low-mileage E28 535i (1984) on Craigslist in Riverside, CA.

Owner claims 116,000 miles, manual, red on black. Looks like they've got hood retaining clips. Owner claims performance mods including cold air intake, radiator, exhaust work. Wants to trade for a Camaro...

Image

Very clean E28 535i (1985) on Craigslist in Long Beach, CA.

Texted the owner regarding the mileage, they claim ~150,000. If so, and this car doesn't have any major issues, looks like a good price at $5,500

1988 BMW 535i - $1000 (Enumclaw)
I have a 1988 E28 535i automatic with 142K in alpine white with a black interior selling complete car - not running, will run. I ran it just long enough to re-set the valves and it has been sitting ignored ever since.

Work completed with zero miles 4 years ago:

New head, high lift cam, valves and springs
New head bolts and gasket set
New exhaust gasket and resurfaced exhaust manifold, exhaust studs and nuts
New timing chain and sprockets
New oil pump
New Bavauto wires
New cap and rotor
New silicone vacuum hoses
New fuel lines
New BMW radiator
New radiator hoses
New Thermostat and temp sensor
New intake boots
New AFE pro 5 air filter
New belts
New euro battery - now dead but may take a charge?

Rebuilt 4HP22 transmission and torque converter
New guibo

All receipts included, just in parts I have over $3500 in it.

The interior is in pretty good condition with a crack free dash. The leather is rip free but could use a little refresh. The wheels are perfect, the tires are worn.

My loss your gain first 1000 cash hauls it away - you will need to tow it.

Seller just called me. Sounds legit. I grilled him and he knows his cars and BMWs. He was open and transparent about everything I asked. I'm not going to follow through...Julie would not be happy and I want to focus on Vlad's bumpers.

For $900 you get a solid 88 535i with a fresh head and rebuilt slushbox. There's a some dents and dings. Interior sounds complete and unmolested, but the car has been sitting outside for 4 years and thus is "musky" on the inside. He said he pulled the carpet up and there's no rust. But beware...

Someone could easily turn this into a $3000 car quick. Or part it out for the M30B34 and get a few grand out of the interior and 4HP22.

Some lower-cost reasonable looking PNW cars:

1) 1988 BMW 535is - $4500
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/4997571676.html
Image
- Good maintenance history and a lot of extra parts, including a rebuilt, spare slushbox

2) 1982 BMW 528e e28 - $1500
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/4996671721.html
Image
- Not much detail but is purportedly a daily driver with "Lots of new parts but still needs work."

3) 1991 BMW 850Ci 2 Door - $8888
http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/ctd/4998702319.html
Image
- Dealer listing, so beware.

4) 1983 533i $1,000 OBO
http://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/4991724296.html
Image
- Wassn't sure if I should post this here or in the turd thread, but since the price looks to actually reflect the quality...

The front spoiler was wet and dripping just right of center, facing the car. It had the consistency of anti-freeze so that would be my guess. I'd need to go back during business hours and look under the hood. If anyone is honestly interested, I'll go check it out for specifics, but I won't go back otherwise just so it doesn't come home with me! I almost never see e28s in person anymore.

Hmmm, that sounds like it could be a water pump wee hole if it's a large puddle and it's more "watery" than "oily" (I like making up my own words). I agree with you on never seeing them in person anymore and staying away from it if you can or else you will buy it. There's one on my local craigslist (which I believe I've seen on the forums here) that I've been scoping out, but have been too afraid to go check out.

What's wrong with us!??

If fluid is red, could be brake fluid. Just replaced hydraulic brake booster => expensive fix
