1.1/1.3 conversions require a different harness, ECU and a few other assorted things. I think 88/89 E24 are the only exact bolt up so to speak with the others needing some modification. Search, blah blah blah.

Yeah, figures. I think I'll stick to sorting out the basics before I think about going down that road.

Yeah, but... It's not wise to convert something when it's not working, you don't know if it's preexisting or your work.

Ha - missed that!

So, got the 2 sensors, installed them yesterday. Started car, nothing. Ok, check leads, check to make sure speed and ref are going to correct connection, swap the leads. Car starts, idles horribly, give it any gas and it dies. Fire it up again, and as its idling horribly, going through the engine, checking all sensors.

Ah ha! I forgot to plus in my temp switch, which I had tested previously. Stupid! Plugged it in, car runs fantastically.

Oh, and another quick follow up-

I had been battling a poor start issue (not too bad) for months since I did a major head overhaul. Couldn't figure it out. Thought it was from a small leak coming out of the cold start valve- losing enough fuel pressure to need a few extra cranks to build back up.

HOWEVER the problem is completely gone with these sensors. I could see where the lead cracked on the speed sensor which I am sure is from pulling back and out of the way the support member with the speed and ref sensor plugs still mounted to the bar.


Anyway- I can't pull the key off the start position fast enough! Damn thing fires up on one crank. Even in 20 degree morning weather.

I had this issue, save one detail. Mine died on the road and I had to coast into a neighborhood at like 40 with no power steering or brake booster. In the snow. Should be an olympic sport.
Did research and stuff, pointed to the sensors. Tested out fine. Pulled my ECU and glanced at it. Cold solder, cracked solder, bubbled caps. Just overall in deplorable condition. Retacked some solder and it fired right up, sputtered a bunch, and then went back to it's normal running like shit state. Again, this is just a bandaid. I need to perform surgery, but I can't have the downtime.
Bought a spare off TCD (The user, not the store) and when it comes in, I'll see if it fixes a bunch of other shit (Rough idle, hard start, surging, no tach, etc) and then rebuild my original, throw it in, rebuild the spare, and then decide which one to chip.
Point is, the ECU can cause this issue too, so you very well could have wasted the $160. I'm not really saying this for you since it fixed your problem, but when future generations of no-starters search for a solution, they won't waste money on sensors that are still good.

Agreed. For those same peeps searching for answers- check your sensors! Use this guide along with your Bentley: http://www.hiperformancestore.com/motronic.htm

By checking OHMS on my sensors, this was an open and closed case. Speed sensor gave no reading, ref sensor was fine. Answer: replace both and save the functioning one as a spare!

But this also reminds me Owndapwn, a spare functioning ECU is on my short list of parts to have on hand and ready to toss in the car. Can't hurt!

Anyone have one available to buy?
