geekhack.org may be a little too nerdy but often has posts about sales and deals on the more expensive stuff.

I believe Unicomp has the closest keyboard to the old Model Ms. Since you are looking for a specific switch, elitekeyboards.com is probably the place with the best selection. They are one of the few places that is upfront about the kind of switches used in the keyboard.

I prefer Topre switches for a little lighter touch and quieter keys. Unfortunately, they are about double the price of the Cherry switches.

i sue a Logitech internet pro wireless keyboard. Ive had great luck with it and liked it so much that i even bought another one though not because the old one broke but rather because the old one began to get louder and some keys were sticking from me spilling a soda in it one day.

I use a Remington Portable made around 1930.

My son bought me some oldschool style key caps via a group buy last year for my birthday. They just came.

I choose to NOT get all the funky characters. I also was supposed to get a red ESC and RETURN key, but they didn't come, so I stole these from my son's order.


This is the same Ducky Shine 3 keyboard I posted above (Cherry MX Brown keys). Makes me smile when I use it.

I've got a Razer BlackWidow Chroma on my gaming machine.

It's amazeballs. Great clicky clicky feel, and it's backlit!

I never understood why you might want a lit keyboard. I never look at mine when I'm using it.

Agreed, but... It's nice to be able to see it when you want to, my current keyboard is old enough to get it's drivers license and I've worn the printing off a letter or two which occasionally becomes a brief problem. Along with the hole in the spacebar. Yeah, I'll break down and get a new one, one of these years.

Come on man, you've been using your keyboard long enough to wear it that much, you really should know which letters are where by now.

I do until I think about it. I can type like a madman, fast enough a coworker once said, "if you ever hear me typing that fast I'm just hitting keys, not actually typing" But if for some reason I have to pause for a sec and think and look, I don't know where thing are! But if I'm on autopilot just zinging away I'm fine.

I always thought that too, until I got a MacBook with the lighted keyboard. It really is a nice feature. I can always find the alpha characters, but the numbers at the top, forget it; I always have to look.

It's like having heated seats; you never know how nice they are until you sit in one on a cold morning.

On my keyboard at work, that my son built for me, he swapped the G and H keys. I didn't notice for about 2 months until I actually happened to be looking at the keyboard. He assumed I had noticed right away and fixed it

Das Keyboard makes a keyboard with blank keycap. It's all black. Looks the business, but I think I'd have trouble remembering where certain special characters are hidden.

That would be a cool one to be backlit but you couldn't see it unless the light was on. Print the character on the underside of the cap, like how the warning lights are done in clusters.

I use this keyboard, but I got it because I wasn't sure how I'd like a mechanical keyboard so I didn't want to spend a bunch. I miss the number pad

The lights have multiple settings including off which is nice.

My favorite keyboard ever was the Apple Extended Keyboard II; as "mechanical" as they get.



Alps keyswitches, and built like a tank. They were big, but the keys had a great feel, and they lasted forever. I still have a few in storage at home; ADB only, but I also have a couple ADB to USB adapters. It's been a while since I used one, so I'm not sure if drivers would be an issue on the modern Macs or not.

Another good one is the MacAlly iKey; the feel is very much like the Apple Extended Keyboard II, but built-in USB capabilities, and zero driver issues. There was a lady in the graphics department at the printing company I worked for who loved the old Apple keyboards, but settled for the MacAlly when her original one quit working.
