I think you mean contrast and you're right. That's a beautiful red, but too much.

That interior is dumb. The contrast of black and red is what makes the Cardinal interior.

Agreed. What's more is that the red interior only really works with specific exterior colors. Black, white, silver, and maybe, just maybe, bronzit.

The only opinion that matters is this case is yours... That being said, if dog shit was two tone that is what I see this looking like.

Why not do this as your interior, I think it would look great!!!

No I meant context. You might look at that picture and think it looks great, but if you saw that interior through the open door of a Zinno car, I don't think many people would stiil think the same.

I like cardinal limited to the seats, the contrast of cardinal door cards with black trim isn't a look I'm a fan of.

my 1.25cents....I think you should stick to what works best in a Stock Red 535i.... black or Natur or Pearl ....call Jims Upholstrey in San Diego and call it a day...and get a euro bumper installed and painted to match the paint then you are done!

Ultimately, it's up to you, but if it were my car, I'd want to uphold some ground to the e28 community and at least keep it A) Period Correct, or B) Completely reversible so that when/if you do go to sell, it's not something people are going to look at and cause to shy away from the car. And on the flip side of that, you wouldn't want to own this car for 5-10 years, put all of this hard work into it and wind up posting it for sale only to have the interior attract that street racer rice rocket 17 year old kid to go and destroy what you've worked hard to accomplish with it for the last some odd years...

All that being said, I still like the blacked out interior as it sits. I think some nice e34 sports will do the trick to spruce it up. Keep it all black, and maybe even do the headliner in a black vinyl or Alcantara knock off...You could even get nutty and put the e34 rear seat in as well.

I missed this thread earlier; I'd have to chime in with Chris, Kyle, Mike et al, and advise against the two-tone business. Unless you're shooting for tacky; if that's the case, full steam ahead. I think there's good reason BMW kept the stock interior colors somewhat subdued. Vlad looks good in his current colors; if it were up to me I wouldn't stray too far from that.

Dude, it was 12:30am and I had a 7:30am meeting this morning. Plus my wife is already pissed the boxes are on our front door step instead of the garage.

Ok, alright. Settle down, settle down. It was just some friendly ribbing.

I know when the wife is unhappy, everyone's unhappy.

Got the seats up to the garage with the help of my son.

Unpacked them and did a quick clean.







They are as advertised. 87Royal did a fantastic job packing them. The condition of the leather is far better than I expected. Makes me want to reconsider completely recovering them and just fix the one bad bolster.

- Driver's bolster is shot
- Passenger is twisted

I cannot get the mechanicals on the driver's side to work. I apply power and ground and no joy. Passenger seat works fine.

I need to figure out how to untwist the passenger seat. I remember reading instructions somewhere, but do not remember where. If anyone has a reference I'd appreciate it.

The power situation on the driver's seat has me stumped. I might be missing something obvious. Any ideas?

Ick. Memory seats. Have fun with that. I believe someone here figured out how to wire them to work. Probably why you can't get powa to the driver seat.

I agree that it might be a good idea to just fix the one bolster. They look good. I think thrice all way to do that is try to get an inner bolster from a passenger seat. That way the leather will match. I would not recover those if they were mine.

I've read multiple places that memory seats work fine. The memory controller is on the seats and the only required wires to the seats are power/ground. All other wires that normally go elsewhere go to things like the non-existent memory mirrors.

I personally don't think there is any better sport seat than those already fitted in our cars, but these will look great when you're done I'm sure. Even if our tastes may differ, it is easy to recognize the level of care and detail you place in your vehicles. What are your plans for the rear seat? Recover in a matching pattern or use an e34 setup? Cool thread that is always worth keeping up with.

E34 sport seats are likely the most comfortable seats ever fitted by BMW. Really great. Switching from them to the E28 seats, you can tell the difference immediately. The E28 seats are definitely good though.

You may full well be right since I admit I've never owned or sat in a pair of those. There is just something about our seats that just makes me really like them. Classic stitching, look, and incredibly nice fit (for me). I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Then you admit you've NEVER sat in a pair of E34 seats.
