If any one is considering a DEC unit, I would verify that they have sorted out their e34/e28 part number problem.

This what I do but I only use my car at the track.

Yes, VSR not VAC. Don't know where I got that from! Congrats on the smart purchase.

If going to all this expense, might want to consider fabbing up
a setup with some quality hi-flow 100 or 200 cel cats...Random Technology if your pockets are deep, or Vibrant if you don't mind a chinese mfr'd compromise. The cats in the setup mentioned above (vac) leave much to be desired. Too bad, becuase the fit and finish seem to get positive reviews.

He already went with the high-quality VSR setup. Winning.

I don't agree that the vsr cats are "winning". I've heard the cust service, fit and build quality is very good though.

It looks great to me as well. But so does a Marussia F1 car in person...doesn't mean it's "winning" :)

I'd be all over a VSR setup if it came with the option of high end cats.

Hello TrakRat,

Just curious if you have any experience with this VSR either on your car or someone else's. Are you suggesting that this has sub-par cats? They are high flow and this setup is stainless. Just curious what you are basing this opinion on.

thanks,
Jeff

Probably similar to his opinion of "I don't understand why everyone doesn't use the SuperSprint exhaust."

I haven't used the VSR on my vehicle, but have used the same cats (magnaflow spun high flow cats, is what vsr told me their manufacturer uses) in various applications (supercharged miata's, turbo bmw, 951 porsche, GM lsx vehicles) and am not a big fan.

Without going into a drawn out thread on which cat is better and the selection of precious metals used, flow rates, egt's etc..(there is a tonne of info out there on google, especially on m3, porsche, and racing forums), my preference is not to upfit my car with the $80 Magnaflow cats, when spending the time and/or money on an $800+ mid pipe.

I'd love it if VSR would build a catless version of their sweet looking mid pipe, and I'd add my own preferred cat.

200 cel cats are my favorite compromise for a dual cat street car.

Doesn't hurt to try to make it better.

You should go work for the National Enquirer....you're quote of my original post isn't accurate...

Read my original post below. I never said everyone should use Supersprint...I said I'm surprised more people don't. There are so many threads about e28 M5 exhausts, yet there are 2 very good bolt on solutions right in front of us...OEM bmw and Supersprint. Yes, that's my opinion, and speaking from experience of having supersprint on multiple vehicles over the years.

"While I appreciate originality, I never really understood why more e28 owners don't just use Supersprint....the sound is very slightly deeper than stock for most of their applications, including on my e28 M5...IMO the Italians got the sound right.

Kudo's for staying original though. Cheers,"

Np. (Sorry for the above polluting posts to your thread...I just don't like being misquoted :) ...I take it you don't prescribe to the "winning" ignorance-is-bliss attitude per the above)

Back on topic...Getting accurate specs on low cost cats is the main problem in and of itself.

I'm not knocking your opinion, I'm just saying the two are similar.

not sure if you were referring to SS re: cat specs? They don't have a cat setup for our vehicles.

(Or, if you were referring to VSR, i was told they are using a Magnaflow spun high flow cat)
