Clint,

Congratulations on taking over stewardship of Rod's car. It sounds like it is going to a very good home.

x2.

Clint,

Sounds like you're the right guy for this car. I get what you are saying though about it leaving the only garage it's ever known, the only owner it's ever known, the only environment it's ever lived in...for 31 years. That's a long time. Hopefully you hold onto it for another 30+.

Congrats!

Clint: I am very pleased that you have bought Rod's car and are bringing it south! Can't wait to see it in person. When we chatted at C&O a few months ago, you told me you were looking for a "nice E28". Well, I think you've found it!  I think you will be an excellent custodian of this amazingly original 5er.

I, too, would have skipped the PPI on this car.

Now, what would be a travesty is if Rod wound up with a new M3. He, of all people, deserves a top-shelf M5. Continuing good luck with the search, Rod. Don't sell out for one of these new, turboed, computerized, plastic cars!

Indeed. Needs OE shift knob/boot as well. And what's going on to the left and right of the radio??? Otherwise looks like a pretty nice car - best I've seen for sale lately.

Clint I knew you would surface.....

Cant wait to see the car

Rob, regarding the EAG M5 above, that is sweet. Looks like SLS is dumped . Just add a good wetsand and painted euro bumpers and possible new leather and it will be very similar to mine and less costly! Nice find...

You would think for that price they would at least recover the seats! Nice looking M5 though.

How many could be left with that low mileage?

I owned your car for one day... It has a "total loss" title. You should be more upfront about that!

No doubt about it... That is the Brad Kirks old M5 that I bought and built and sold to Leonard. If it's not, I'll be a Monkey's ... It was once a very nice M5

Leonard was hit in the rear and it was totaled.

Sorry Cliff, you're right. I was talking about the 88M5 which was in Fairfax, VA as recently as October 2012. That's the car in Albany....

Clint, great to see you here and thanks for all the positive comments. I am sure you'll be happy with the car and will take excellent care of it. Not looking forward to it leaving my garage soon, after so many years with it, but I'll get over it. Also, not much luck with finding my idea of a perfect E28 M5, but will keep looking for a few more months. Thanks again.

Rod there are several close to perfect examples out there. But like mine it is so darned hard to find one that is close, and then once it is found harder to consider selling it. Be patient one will show up and GLW the search. I can not wait to see your car as well when it arrives.

Ron Perry has a beautiful 535i that has had the 'correct' euro conversion with ONLY 27K. Drop a s38b35 drivetrain your there! Doesn't get much better than that!

Good Luck!

Paul,
Yes, he and I are talking about this very thing, but thank you for the tip. I've got to work through some issues about buying another E28, as my wife has said I never should have sold the 528e in the first place, which she really loved, but kept silent until yesterday, when I told her about my talk and e-mails with Ron about his 535i/S38B35 possibility. She wants something newer with better safety features (airbags) and can be dropped off at BMW for service/repair and get me out of the garage... more so than I have been for years. Since we're going to start traveling more, she makes excellent points. We'll come to an agreement of some sort, eventually, as good partners do.

Wow, are you really not going to look into the one at EAG? That is the only one I've seen lately that even has a shot at being as nice as you are looking for. Sure a few odds and ends to make it the way you truly want it, but I bet it is quite a good car.

I saw the last one they sold to a mye28 member while I was at Vintage this weekend and it was seriously clean. Best original example that I've been in front of. You could always get in touch with ol' Ed Locke and see if he is ready to part with his! That one is darn sharp too.

The EAG car is the same one that was on bringatrailer.com back in November and was for sale on BMW CCA's classifieds back in April. Definitely looked like a nice car.

Rod,

Hope your search results in another e28. I'm sure whatever ends up in your stable will be just as preserved as the last one.

Good Luck! Can't wait to see the sequel...
