Let me sum up here.

eurospecturd has a non-running car.
Friend has a running car.

They put their brain together and figure that all they need to do to get the non-running car started, is to give it a good pull.
So Friend backs his car up to the non-running one, and they attach the back of Friend's car to the rear tow hook of the non-running car with a "tow strap" (orange extension cord), and leave exactly five feet of space between the two bumpers. Friend starts off, and comes to a stop (for any reason - could have been a stop sign, or just a hot girl crossing the street), and eurospecturd neglects to hit his brakes, probably because he is facing away from his Friend and can't see the brake lights (or he is distracted by said hot girl).

Disgustedly, eurospecturd gets out of his now damaged car, unhooks the "tow strap" so that he can plug his computer back in, and proceeds to post on the internet about how his Friend is responsible for damaging his car.

Did I get that right?

Was the strap you were using 2' long? I've towed too many cars to count with a strap, at least half of them having no brakes at all, and I've never had a collision.


Edit: Well, no collision that wasn't cushioned by an old tire and planned for, anyway.

I think about what happened and a lot of things could have been done to stop the cars from colliding, but it's already happened. So now i just have to figure out what to do to fix the rear end

That explains a lot. Then keep at it and don't let this little incident be anything more than a minor bump in the road, and a lesson to learn from. Be careful though who you get help from because there are few people who really understand or appreciate these cars; you're not likely to find many in your high school shop class that will.

Keeping this photo in your head will keep you moving in the right direction. Stick to it, ask questions, and be willing to listen & learn from the guys on mye28.com, and you'll have your dad's car looking even better than that.

If the sheet metal is really creased, you'll have a tough time fixing it but if you really are intent on saving it, get a hammer and dolly set from harbor freight. There's enough damage there that by the time you start getting the shape close, you'll be pretty good at it. Then you can do the bondo. Also, if your friends at the shop have something like this http://www.harborfreight.com/4-ton-heav ... 44899.html you'd be able to do the job even faster though you have to be careful.

Towed it into the shop without help, didn't slam it into the back of my car. Going slow and dragging the parking brake on the towed car is the key.
