I agree with the linear power delivery, though you have to wait a year and a half for the thing to spool up. I suppose autos just aren't fun for me as a driver. Personally I believe BMW's are meant to be driven around corners, not in straight lines. The auto is just too difficult to control while entering/exiting a corner, with boost to boot.

Some might say the 7 isn't meant for that. But I challenged that thought with this car.

I did a pretty good job throwing Greg's car around some twisties in Oregon. With an automatic. Haha.

The thing to me about the power delivery is to think about what the car was designed to do. I think it does that perfectly, just as the 528e does it's thing.

Obviously it is all a preference and I think the converted 5-speed cars are way cool and I hate the thought of automatics, but when it comes to these cars, I like to enjoy them from the perspective from which they were designed.

I've never driven an auto BMW anything (only driven the 535i, m535i, and e21, this e23, and rode my F650GS dakar), but this e23 is killer and I am glad that Trey did the dirty work on the 5 speed swap.

What is fun about this car is that it was made for comfortably traveling between Augsburg and Koln at 200 km/h yet my car can still do that, can get off the line faster than my m535i, and looks ridiculously cool lowered on big ACS rims.

The m535i is going to be as close as can be to original while this car can go in it's own "original" direction.

I'd say. That was one of the most impressive rides of my life. That car and the way you tossed it around will be etched in my memory forever. Amazing.

This one has a 5 speed LJ, no need for high stall torque converter.

My friend, David Harrison had a 3.73 in his. Personally I think it would be a bit much for me. I love the 2.93 on the highway. If I can find a big case S3.25, I might go that route though.

There were 5 Euro E23's at Vintage this year and one US car.

One of the 745's was a local car that was for sale. It was not an executive, but it looked pretty nice and very original. Had around 130K I think.

I did not think to get the telephone number for you Muraah, but I bet I can get the owners name from the Vintage folks.

I've decided to keep her. Lots of work to do, including the HVAC. Cleaned her up a little today. Drove her. I always forget what an absolute beast this car is.

The automatic is perfect in the 745i since the two computers work together. You don't even feel it shift. I drove an E38 740iL the other day and it was much the same way. Just a nice smooth rush of power.

Really old post but I think you'd really like my 740i no L staggered M parallels and 3.38 gear......gets around pretty decent for a big car.

Me too. Those seats are great. The smell of leatherique and buffalo butter bring back a rush of memories.

Now I get to do lots of the less fun, unflattering stuff. Fix the HVAC, new power steering hoses and hydro boost stuff. Subframe and suspension bushings. New windshield, floor mats, tint, and figure out the broken sun roof rail.

My plan is to have a lot of things finished on it by the end of January and address the HVAC in Feb/Mar. After that, it might be taken out to the west coast and stored for later use. It'd be fun if you and Greg brought yours in October too and we had them all there if mine is still in Texas next fall.
