There certainly are other options available, but I decided to go with what was/is at hand.wkohler wrote:While an S38 is interesting, I don't think you can beat the S50, ZF 310 and S3.23 for a fun, reliable daily driver. Transformed the car and it looks factory. The '93 with the swap in Miami really spoke to me as a whole package with the 18" RCs, but I'm glad I went the route I did.johnnye23 wrote:Super Jealous here Sherman ! I think this would be the swap I would do if I were to update my Tourings driveline. Keep the photos coming and good luck with the transplant.

With all these GIANT pictures it should have been moved to eye candy.rmiddendorf wrote:Oooooooh... oooooh........ I got this!wkohler wrote:Also surprised this thread has stayed in General Conversation this long.

That will definitely happen.1st 5er wrote:Kitchen remodel has gotten in the way.mooseheadm5 wrote:You done yet?
Mama's kitchen (or most anything on her honey-do list) will trump dad's car projects every time.1st 5er wrote:Kitchen remodel has gotten in the way.mooseheadm5 wrote:You done yet?

I've gotten away with it for the past 15 +/- years. But, eventually...mooseheadm5 wrote:Tell me about it!davintosh wrote:Mama's kitchen (or most anything on her honey-do list) will trump dad's car projects every time.1st 5er wrote:Kitchen remodel has gotten in the way.mooseheadm5 wrote:You done yet?
While you are very right, I think the S50 is also much more popular especially in sedan E34s. Soon will be like Style 5s on an E34.wkohler wrote: While an S38 is interesting, I don't think you can beat the S50, ZF 310 and S3.23 for a fun, reliable daily driver. I wouldn't be afraid of driving and using a converted car. A real M5T would be a garage queen for me so I like Sherman's plan!beliq wrote:While you are very right, I think the S50 is also much more popular especially in sedan E34s. But then again we have some S50/S52 cars that are done absolutely properly to the very last bit, is that right Greg![]()
I am yet to ses a S38 M5T and there is one cooking North of me
I am referring to Sherman's car as M5T.rmiddendorf wrote: A real M5T would be a garage queen for me so I like Sherman's plan!

Hopefully the same thing I call mine. A 525iT. Really messes with people that think they can take me off the line.rmiddendorf wrote:Oh you get what I'm saying...beliq wrote:I am referring to Sherman's car as M5T.rmiddendorf wrote: A real M5T would be a garage queen for me so I like Sherman's plan!![]()
Hey Sherman- what will you call your touring after the swap?
Probably helps when getting insurance quotes too.mooseheadm5 wrote:Hopefully the same thing I call mine. A 525iT. Luckily insurance in the US is based on VIN. If I were in England, I'd have to submit any motor swaps like this for a hefty insurance hike.davintosh wrote:Probably helps when getting insurance quotes too.mooseheadm5 wrote:Hopefully the same thing I call mine. Our insurance company asks if any modifications were done to any car that we're insuring. So far I haven't had to tell them any untruths...mooseheadm5 wrote:Luckily insurance in the US is based on VIN. I wouldn't be surprised if that varied by state.davintosh wrote:Our insurance company asks if any modifications were done to any car that we're insuring. You know why style 5s are popular? They don't look like style 138s. For me, the S50 is also a very easy swap. Keep the plastic coil cover from the M50 and no one is the wiser.beliq wrote:While you are very right, I think the S50 is also much more popular especially in sedan E34s.
