The gauges are installed! I was a very easy job.

The cluster before:



Opened it up and placed the new oil pressure and temperature face plate:



Drilled some holes to accept the screwes that came with the kit to keep the digi gauge in place. It has to press against the cluster otherwise you don't see the numbers clear:




Looks good!



After that you have to cut out some plastic from the backingplate. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel for this job.




And after this reassamble the cluster and you have this! BTW, this particular M5 tacho is from the famous E28 M5 racer that was at 5erFest 2007 where I bought it

Hey, I just noticed you're not using a Euro fuel gauge!

No, my cluster is a complete mix of parts!

* Alpina housing (with the very good looking grey inside!)
* Alpina 300km/h speedo (and oem orange needle)
* M5 rev counter
* US temp and fuel gauge
* US face plate for warning lights

I ordered some stuff for our Dodge Cummins at WhitefaceGauges.com (stock looking "km/h" gauge faces, no white shit here offcourse!) and also ordered orange gauge needle paint so when that arrived I will paint all the needles of my cluster the same orange color.

Installed my 3.62 210 diff yesterday with fresh LSD clutches! What a blast to drive now! It feels good to drive it again after winter and with the way to long 3.07 diff.
Did some donuts to check if the LSD works and it did!

Well, I'm not that happy anymore.....it reads wrong if compared to my analog VDO gauge. The VDO reads 80 degrees and the digi gauge reads 100 already while I'm just cruising around town. Also, the pressure doesn't work, it reads 0.3 bar with a shut down engine and reads 8 bar when idling cold. When you start driving it gets down pretty fast and even reads 0 bar when idling warm but my light doesn't come on and i know for sure that my oil pressure is fine. I used all brand new senders.

I hope is isn't a piece of cheap that just looks good. It also made my blower motor keep working when I turn the ignition of but keep my headlights on......

I've contacted Roland and he said that a VDO temperature sensor reads to much, so I need to use the OE BMW sensor. For the pressure, it uses a 0-10 bar VDO sensor. I don't know which one I have (had it laying around for a couple of years) but I bet it is the 0-5 bar one.

I have a new "project"for the 538iS, a standalone engine managment. It is a KDFI from Germany and MSII based. It is a PNP system but I will ad a wide band lambda sensor so it can run in closed loop and I want to run a MAP sensor for regular driving and Alpha-N for WOT. The KDFI already has a MAP sensor build in and also a lambda controller build in.

The oiltemp/pressure cluster from Roland uses the OEM temp. sender form euro M3 E30, and it works fine, have the same cluster in for a few years now. Ordered about ten units for the french E28 Forum and all work fine, for the pressure sender use the VDO 0-10 bar otherwise you get absolutely wrong data. There's a combi sender which also gives the signal for the 0.5 bar warning bulb in the BMW cluster.

I've fitted a E32 V12 starter to my S38B38 this weekend to have a more powerfull starter. It fitted without problems so it is a nice upgrade for high compression engines in cold weather.
It is tilted a bit more upright but it cleared the S38 intake so it shoudnt give problems in a M30 either.
I also upgraded to bigger/thicker battery cables and a 100amp/h battery. Next step is a 140a alternator to keep this big basterd charged!
