I've only ridden in an eta e28 (chipped). The other one i owned was smashed to bits.
I've owned TWO eta e30s. (one chipped with 3.25 LSD, one stock)
They are NOT racecars, but you can still have PLENTY of fun in them.
My favorite was 4 wheel drifting my stock eta every day on the way home from work. Who said bald tires are useless?
Oh, AND the eta was the perfect chariot for me, jay, skip and tyler to push to victory at 5erFest '07. So THERE!

I have the coolest eta ever. I love the car. It's like the back burner junkyard project that turned into a little gem. I wish it had more umph, but the fuel mileage is where it's at right now. Quiet, A/C, sat radio, Alpina wheels, euro outer treatment, sport seats, and BAM! Cool eta!

I donno the road warrior had no problem getting out of its own way and always felt fast enough until I couldn't keep up with the e92 M3's and the M6 on the way to M-school.

I don't understand the eta hating either. There are plenty of minivans that are going to shit all over a 535 just the same. At least the 528 gets good mileage.
When they're running right they are fun to drive. Most are not. Rings are susceptible to carbon buildup and wear, camshafts require good oil, valves need adjustment. If these things are not done major engine work is required.

If this site was a pay for membership site, as it may become, I would be requesting my membership dues be refunded and at the very least, no way in hell I would renew said membership.
So many members in this "club" seem to enjoy calling a fellow members E28 a POS simply because it doesn't meet their standards of what an E28 should be. I really have no need to be associated with a "club" like that.
I will therefore just hop into my POS and be on my way.

Jeez, way to be defensive. I was complaining about how my own car is a slow POS. Yours can be a fast POS, or even a decent car with modest swiftness. I've never seen yours, I don't want to knock it. Mine, however, feels like it has trouble getting out of its own way. Of course, I could (and do) say the same thing about my friend's Boxster.

That pretty much sums up my problem. I've got an M thingy that has tons more torque in all spots in the rev range, and a 3.64 rear end. It's pretty clear why I can't help but consider my 528e lethargic.

If that's meant to be an apology/retraction it is certainly accepted.
Although he took it extremely personally, I had a long chat with him, checked all his fluids and vitals, topped up those that needed it and took him out for a spirited run. He thought about burning some rubber but he didn't want to ruin a perfectly good pair of shoes.

My 528e was pathetic getting on highway ramps and such until I put in a 3.25lsd and rebuilt the 4HP22. What a big difference it is driving it now. I have much better acceleration and the engine does not seem to rev any faster than with the 2.93.
I love the red glow of the instrument cluster at night and how comfortable the E28 feels while driving. It still handles twisties nicely but it will never be as fast as an E28 fitted with an M30.
Yes I think I'll keep my eta's and enjoy a fine piece of German engineering. But Cactus I know all too well your pain, my garage queen still has the 2.93 and can't get out of it's own way sometimes.

So after driving it again for a week, my only major fault is the lack of AC, the car needs more attention, but it's not as slow as I once believed. There's certainly enough power to get me to work. And it runs (chipped) on 87 octane instead of 93. Also, to clear up any confusion, it's a 5 speed car.
My situatuon is akin to driving a 250 shifter kart on the track, then immediately hopping on riding lawn mower.

Try going from an ///M to an E34 525iT.

If that's an m50 car, is's not that bad. If it's an m20 car, I feel your pain. Putting that engine into an e34 was a mistake.

'95, M50, and still slow.
