So the consensus is that this is NOT a real Alpina?
A 528i and parts from an Alpina?

Notice the BIN price came down.

It looks like 505. I can try to sharpen it up some see if that helps.

I'm not sure there is a final consensus on this one yet. Use caution when considering the purchase appears to be the best approach so far. Some things work, some don't.

Picture shows it was manufactured in 1984. Seller says it a 1986. This doesn't seem right.

That's almost a non-issue. It also gives more credence to it's authenticity as car #495 (the car that precedes it on the alpina-archive) was made in July 1984.

Often times, things get screwed up in the titling process. I have one E12 M535i made before the other and the earlier car is titled as an '81 while the early car is an '80. Essentially, it was probably a mistake when it was imported.

I lean towards the car being real. The only real way to know is to contact Alpina. Everything adds up as far as what I'm seeing. It is nearly a 30-year-old car and Alpina parts aren't exactly common over here.

Correct. Based on the VIN 9370147, this is an authentic Alpina B9 and there is no question about that whatsoever.

It was mentioned that 1986 could be the import to USA date.

If the owner has the "magic" numbers on bloc and engine, it would help to confirm the authenticity of the engine and alpina can confirm from there.

The car seems very well taken care of with low mileage.

BIN is down to $ 24,500: when it reaches $ 9,999, it is mine!!!!!

Alpina B9 on ebay

"Correct. Based on the VIN 9370147, this is an authentic Alpina B9 and there is no question about that whatsoever." (rcbmw)

So I am interested in this car, but haven't yet seen any specific information about B9 505. Is there a list of Alpina VIN's available online or elsewhere that lists the VIN of B9 505? rcbmw's post is pretty definitive. Does it have the Alpina motor that came in the car? I asked the seller about verifying the car and motor w/Alpina or with the original paperwork, and he responded that the car is #505 and not 506, but nothing indicating that he can verify its authenticity. Any links to the information on B9 505 would be helpful--thanks

Art:

Your best bet is to contact Alpina directly. Susan at KSK Distributing was able to confirm with her contact at Buchloe that my car was "real". So that might be a good place to start. Not surprisingly, B9-505 is not shown on The Alpina Register - www.thealpinaregister.com. rcbmw's blessing carries the day for me. Good luck - this would make a nice acquisition but it does appear to need some TLC. At least the BIN price is headed in the right direction.

That's good news. Any chance the VIN has been transfered from one car to another? I have no reason to suspect it, but I did run into it on a 2002 once and it is done far too often on old British stuff.

It would be easy to transfer the one from the dash but isn't there also one on the firewall etched into the metal?

As pointed Above, the easiest way is to contact Alpina in Buchloe..

They seem to reply very quick.

When I got my B9, previous owner request the Invoice from the Factory, and I still have that copy (Digital Off Course) whch I used to keep the original color.

Even when my car does not have the Front Spoiler and the Heck Spoiler, and have no diff cooler, as Mike points above, my car does not have an Alpina plate on the Hood. Just the Production Plate Number with Id #23 (Early Model)

I think the price is a bit high, but thats just me...

When I particularly bought the E28, I didnt purchased it because it was a B9. I always liked the E28 so much than even a 520 would do it for me, but giving the lack of good cars on that chassis around here (CostaRica) the B9 was the real deal.
If the interested people is a Car collector, then the panorama changes...

Just asking because my curiosity is up but is anyone contacting Alpina to verify this?
I think the number is 506 and the registry says it was destroyed?

It looks fishy to me, unless you can verify the head and the block serial # as stated bellow.

Here are some photos of Alpina B9 # 575 ( i presume the last car built) I almost bought while I was in Germany in 2009 from my German Partner..BTW, it has the Alpina Vin plaque..

and Here's the correct Original Alpina Gauge Cluster

few more original cluster photos of cars I have seen

more photos of car number 575 I took at below link,

http://euromcars.com/cars/alpb9575/

All other clusters you see with Alpina stamped on the dials are fake, they are stickers affixed to the Dials, Original Alpina cluster has the Alpina stamp on the frame and in order to stencil that the clear plastic cover has to be unglued, I go to Germany frequently and look at many real and fake Alpina cars...hence quite familiar with finding fakes...If I am not sure I simply email my contact at Alpina in Buchloe and he confirms the VIN...

Regards,

Saliya

Saliya,

The speedometer is belonging to a B7, that is given, because the B9s didn’t come with 300K speedometer.

Also the others are from an e30 and 34s and the one with stamp Alpina logo is the additional display that comes on BiTurbo for further info that you would need such as diff Tem, air and fuel ratio, etc…. which is an add on and has a separate part #.

Also the VIN should read the Alpina VIN as well both on top of the shock tower mount (stamped) and the body plaque.

But at the same time, you mentioned that the owner changed the original B9’s body with another e28 in which take this thing to a different category, but certainly not an Alpina if that is true. Another word, do you think if I buy all the parts and install them on an e28 would that conceder as an Alpina car?

Yes, I can do that but he can't verify that the plates and ID for this car wern't taken from #506 and put on this car?
The data Sia talks about is not available in the photos?

Guys I missed this sentence I guess.

But is this kind of comeback really neccessary?
That's exactly the kind of comment that gives this forum the reputation for beating up on members and they quit and go away.
You could have just quoted the sentence or pointed it out to me and gone on.

jumping on the band wagon

Post by alpinass »

Sorry Art for not responding. It does have some good points and many negatives pointed out by Chris W, Kyle and Saliya.

The diff looks weird to me....the driver's side the CV axle looks shorter or the boot is in an 'odd' location.

Kyle pointed out all the HACK crap on the exhaust system.
What Headers? I didn't know ALPINA built there own Headers - Yes Hartge did.

Chris pointed out rear valance - Hack job central!

It appears to be an instrument cluster from a B7. Normally asperated motors are not going to hit 300km (186.42)
I don't think the B7s is going to be clocked at that! S H I T!

Dead pedal?
Is that steering wheel being protected?

The CA plate is new so it was recently registered.
No e28 that I have owned and it's been a few...you guys know that were all black - this was rattle canned. Hope that isn't undercoating....

Is it a true 245h.p. ALPINA motor? Check VIN and motor#
5-speed 265 O/D or Close ratio?
What LSD?

The seats look correct - ratty - both front seats and rear seat needs rebuilding.

NOT impressed with RED calipers...

RED FLAG! This car looks very suspect to me....

This is very close to me..I'd actually like to go check it out.

So stay tuned.

Actually, this car has been registered in the state of California for under the correct VIN for many years. Again, based on the VIN, this is an authentic Alpina B9. Period.

The BaT comments are interesting.

I have never been in a situation to doubt anything rcbmw has said and I can tell that he only shares information if he is 100% sure of its validity. That said, it appears as though this car was issued a salvage title and has odometer inconsistencies. The latter really doesn't mean much since I've found people to be quite stupid when transcribing mileage, etc.

From the comments on BaT:
Eddiet
6:49pm
Carfax shows 05/06/1998 220,160 miles California Inspection Station Perris, CA Passed emissions inspection
Then 02/03/2004 160,434 miles California
Inspection Station Santa Ana, CA Passed emissions inspection and a “MILEAGE INCONSISTENCY”

Carfax then shows: 11/19/2011 74,998 miles California
Inspection Station Santa Ana, CA Passed emissions inspection
MILEAGE INCONSISTENCY

The No Date Reported California Motor Vehicle Dept. SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED. Record also shows “Severe Damage”

Besides all the trim and sheet metal inconsistancies, this registration information from the state really is troubling. Oddly, Carfax doesn’t show the Make model or year of the vehicle.
Here are some photos of the car from Bimmerfest 2010 (where I saw it):

You'll notice in the last photo that it still has the Euro rear valance, though that's a US rear muffler.

You guys are very impressive. So it seems like a tired Alpina that had a hard life, a motor w/220+k or a replacement, damaged and fiddled with. The price seems more than a little salty.

....And a Salvage Title with reported "Severe Damage". So, let's see, TMU, Salvage, incorrect parts on the car, a 1986 MY stamp on the B.A.R. sticker and the VIN says it has a 1984 build date......all at a $24,500 price!!!!

A good way to confirm the authenticity and (in my case) get the build sheet and other literarture (verifying my car) was through Alpina Directly. Mark (previous owner of my B9) had been speaking and corresponding with a Mrs. Vera Eder at Alpina HQ prior to my purchase to verify my car, # 312. He was able to get written confirmation authenticating the car from Vera at Alpina. She had signed a letter sent to him which is how I had gotten her name. From my initial contact with her she was more than helpful (and super friendly).

And to Mike Gray, would this be the sixth? (Assuming it's real).
