This car, together with RoyW and Sia's B7s, were at The Vintage in 2010. They made quite an Alpina display!

I will probably bring the M5 to The Vintage this year. It's a pretty nice car and hasn't been shown at this point. But plans may change.

I really appreciate you taking the time to post the photos of the dead pedal. This confirms that the dead pedal I have is in fact a ALPINA dead pedal. The version sold by KSK distributing as an aftermarket accessory is a different style.

I was thinking abut selling it, but I've changed my mind. I'm going to refinish my dead pedal and install it in the M5.

That doesn't look like my dead pedal. Mine looks exactly like the one in the E28 parts catalog and that pedal's part number matches my build sheet, so I know it's original. I don't have a good photo of it at this time, though. I can say that the one being sold on eBay as a reproduction doesn't fit.

I know it looks different, however now there are three of the same type dead pedals.

1)The one installed in Mike Gray's ALPINA B9
2)The one John in Va owns and was told by a very reputable source it's an E28 ALPINA dead pedal.
3) My dead pedal which came from Germany in a shipment of E28 ALPINA parts back in 2000.

It's entirely possible ALPINA had a couple of different style dead pedals for the E28.

I'm not saying it isn't, just that I've never seen it. Obviously with this revelation, it appears the mystery is solved.

Just to be clear for our readers, the above photo is taken from the Alpina Teilekatalog - I've got an original copy, still in the blue-spined Alpina cover. Obviously, my dead pedal is different from what's in the catalog, but I'm fairly certain it's a real Alpina part. There must be several different styles, as Rich has pointed out above.

I believe I have one similar to wkohler I guess.

One thing I've noticed about the two different dead pedals. The version shown in the ALPINA accessories catalog that everyone is familiar with, is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as it fits close to the existing raised contour of the floor. The dead pedal Mike, John in Va, and I have, raises your your clutch foot 3" higher and places it in perfect position next to the clutch pedal. It's more like something you'd find installed in a race car. My WAG is there were a couple of different options for dead pedals from ALPINA back when these cars were new, or it might have something to do with production dates. B7 Turbo cars were built from 04/84 - 12/87, the B9 was built from 11/81 - 11/85. B10s from 7/85 - 12/87. Chris and Pedi, what are the production dates of your ALPINAs?

When I owned Mike's B9, I went to a Alpina Register event in the UK. The two B9's there had exactly the same dead pedal as in Mike's car. They were both Synter cars (so the parts would have come from Alpina), but close to the same build period as mine/Mike's #536. I do remember when I was looking at an E24 B10 that was FS (former Japan market car) in Utah, that the pedal was slightly different. My guess would be that there was more than one mfg. Like many other parts, Alpina doesn't make dead pedals. Pretty much like some models are found with both Scheel-Mann and Recaro seats.

Wow. Mike, that's simply gorgeous. The car is a credit to you and the other prior owners who helped get it into its current shape. It's really special, and it reflects the passion and attention to detail that you have brought to it. Congratulations -- continue to use it and drive it in good health.

(And if you ever sell it, let me know, although I suspect I would have to raid the kids' college funds a bit . . . . . )

If I'm still in the mix I'll do everything possible to be at VAV '13. It's usually a big volleyball weekend so with 3 more years of high school I can definitely commit to VAV '16.

I especially love the chrome details as it provides that extra touch of class.
It's very smart in apearance and two thumbs up for the time and effort from everyone involved.
It truly is outstanding!

I ordered a dead pedal direct from Germany about 7 years ago - It looks like the one Chris has in the picture. That is the one that was copied. This pedal sits lower to the floor. The one in Mike's B9 (my old car) Yes I flew to Chicago and drove it back to Sunny Ca. I never saw an interior in such perfect condition - has a higher dead pedal (as stated) possible for track use.

I just saw a good friend's '85 535i with ALPINA goodies including a dead pedal. The longer version fits correctly and does have a 'lower' center of gravity. I can install mine without any concerns

Tim, Mike and I had stayed connected about their ownership of the B9. I have helped Mike source many parts for his beautiful B9- bringing it up to the highest standard.

Mike, that dead pedal needs to be repainted. Also, there is some dust and grunge back there behind it.

Damn nit-picker!! Come on Leonard, you know this is no garage queen - the thing gets driven!

Paul is right about the interior. It's incredible that it is now about 28 years old. Virtually no wear, even on the driver's side bolster. Only VERY slight fading on the top of the rear seatback.

And I think Charles and I probably are related - but that snooty CA side of the family never attends the redneck Gray family reunion in GA. Great place to pick up girls.
