Uhhh, right up until Jeff Lynne said that all he was going to do was write the disco crap because it was so much easier. So pretty much everything from Discovery on kinda sucks, though it's great for what it is. Just not the same as the original.
I LOVE me some ELO. I enjoy Disco, very! I listened to ELO all the way to TEDFEST. It was great.
Oh and by the way, Night rider gets my vote for late night missions. There is something about Kelly Groucutt's voice that compliments Jeff Lynn's. Too bad he died so young...

Having lived through the height of both bands' popularity, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Shocking Blue's "Venus" not only charted higher (#1) than "Hocus Pocus" (#9), it also repeated that with the remake by Bananarama 16 years later.

Well, I might be wrong as to which is more famous, and not surprisingly because I never knew (nor did I care) who originally did Venus - and had never heard of Shocking Blue before this thread. The very fact we're having this discussion proves the initial premise incorrect since there are clearly more than two famous Dutch rock bands. Just because a crappy song got to #1 doesn't mean Focus isn't internationally recognized.
Back on topic, though. If I had an S38 in the car I was driving to work at 5 AM, I don't see why you would need a radio.

I have never been much for car audio. I drove my M6 for 5 years without the OEM radio working. It never bothered me. I took it to BMW legend Lothar Schuettler's shop (BMW ExcluService) this year and they got the radio working again. On this day, I was in the mood to hear some tunes. The music sounded great. The S38 sounded great (this car is from the era when BMW M engines were allowed to be louder than the OEM stereo system). The Nappa leather and the cold, clean air smelled great. All was perfect, for me.
I don't always drive with music, but when I do, I prefer something awesome.

People will laugh, but two of my favorites are actually both Pablo Cruise tracks. It's not as though I actually like Pablo Cruise, but I think these are great.
1.) Zero to Sixty in Five from Lifelines (1978)
2.) Ocean Breeze from Pablo Cruise (1975) - I only really like the first 8:30, right up until the lyrics start. It's just okay after that until the ending.

Thanks for this post. For the last 4 months I've been thinking about watching Miami Vice on Netflix. Started this week with Season 1, Episode 1, I'm 3 episodes in. The acting hasn't gotten any better btw.
This was a great post, one that I missed when it was first posted. I am also a Miami Vice fan especially the music and I think the same thing about BMW's of the era. For me, the favorite from the tv show is "Crocket's Theme" which is available on youtube.
My youngest was born at the time she was because we asked them not to break my first wife's water until after the episode when Crocket's Daytona was blown up....
Jocelyn was surprised too because she delivered within 5 mins after breaking the water and came out saying
"WTF!!, did you see that!!"
Actually the staff came into the birthing room with about 10 mins left in the episode and we all watched it together...
