I keep checking back expecting to see a new title: This Fat Bitch is Singing!

The fat bitch is singing!
So the old girl is running.

BUT.
It wont run with the fuel pump fuse IN place.
If I pull it out it will run for about 30secs nice and smooth, but as soon as I put it back it cuts out.
I'm also having a little trouble with tuning it at idle.

I'm running out for lunch and will post a short video so you guys can hear her sweey song.....

Bitch has a deep voice though... lol

What size injectors? Have you tightened the hell out of your AFM spring?

Great to hear you got her back together and running!

Patience with the tuning. Your rewards are near!

30lbs injectors.
I am tightening it... I'll keep going.
I use the 30secs of run time with the fuel pump fuse out to try to dial it in.

:alright: and  then :haul: but not before making sure your AFRs are good else :bawl:. You have a wideband right? Glad to hear she's singin'.

Got her running.
At idle the afr is perfect, 14.3-15.1 +- a little.
I took her for a drive and under normal driving the afr was in the 13.7 - 14.8 range, again very nice.
I got on it just a little, I could not resist, and the afr didn't drop to the 11ish range as they should, but its not been tuned for that yet.
The afr stayed up in the 13ish range. So I'll stay off boost until it is tuned.
BUT, I did feel a little of the added power.

Thank you everyone for the help and encouragement and for pushing me foward when I was about to cave.

Big props to Todd at TCD for lending me his wideband and for putting up with countless phone calls.
Gotta give major thanks to ceebee9 for driving 2.5hours round trip to give me the muscle I need to get this head on and off all three times.
Thanks to clongo for the research he did in answering question I had no answers to. I'll be taking him out for a beer for sure.
Big thanks to Fido for lending me some wheels while mine was in ICU.
Major thanks to Nebraska e28 for sending me a head for the cost of shipping. Life saver.......

Take a listen....

Im suprised it will idle that lean. I have found the m30 to idle best from 13.2-13.5.

Thanks guys. Its nice to finally be here.
I have one question and please don't bite my head off.
If I were off by one tooth, would the car idle as smoothly as it does and what would that do to my afr at idle.
I'm 99% sure its timed right but in this case, an extra 1% would be huge.
With my last two major screw-ups, there is 1% of doubt I'd like to get rid of.
Even though she is singing to me, I am still nervous.

Thats, and yes, the road was nsot only long, but riddled with potholes.
The only issue I have is that the car doesn't always turn right off when I turn the ignition. It often runs for another two seconds or so and slowly fades out.
Can I get some feedback on this.

I would replace the main relay. It might be sticking shut.

Swapped in a known good one and it did the same thing...

Being off one tooth in either direction isn't going to harm anything. It also will not effect the idle, as it's a closed loop system controlled by the Motronic.

What happens when you change cam timing in a SOHC configuration is a shift of the torque curve up or down the available RPM range Typically retarding cam timing shifts the torque curve lower down the RPM range, while advancing the cam shifts it up the RPM range.

No disrespect Rich, but, I think it's the other way round.
advancing the cam improves low end

I could have it backwards, I was basing in on memory, and that doesn't work as well now that I'm in my mid-50s.

So after a significant amount of pain its running quite nicely at the moment.
afr is in the mid to upper 14s at idle and low 14s under normal driving.
I did a few mild pulls and the afr drop down into the 11s as they should.
All this and the begi isn't even on the car.
With it running as well as it is, I'm almost afraid to reinstall the begi, but I am.
I replace the o2 sensor that was toasted with the fuel issues I had yesterday.
The wideband o2 sensor seems to be working fine now that I wiped all the carbon off it and heated it up nicely.
Its still getting a little hotter than I think it should.

good stuff! so did you ever find out why she wouldn't start earlier today?

What was causing the AFR problems?

The stock o2 sensor was shot, and the wideband was coated with carbon.

AFR issues:

So on a 1st start and after it warms a little my afr is betweem 14.5-15.1 with a few spikes above and below here and there.

I still haven't been able to get the #s good on wot but I'm not really worried about that at the moment.
For the 1st 20 miles or so of normal driving the afr bounces between 14-14.8 with a few spikes above and below here and there.
After about 20 miles, over the last three days, the afr begins to creep down into the 13s, then the 12s-11s and sometimes sits on 10.
If in 5th gear and I punch it, it will bog down so I have to down shift 1 gear.
The weird thing is that when I pull onto my street and cruise in the #s start to creep back up.
Once I pull into my driveway, park and let it idle, its back between 14.3-15.2.....
Yesterday I check and changed all the vacuum lines.

I guest this is just the continuation of the build from hell......

On wot, the afr bounces between 13-14 and then bangs hard over to 10 at about 5k RPM.
The last time I tried to tune it I blew the stock fpr so I'm a little afraid of turning the center screw in too far.
I just did 4 pulls and turned the center screw in one rev after each pull and the #s didn't really change much......

I also noticed that the mpg on the tank of gas is in the shitter....
