St Paddy's Day 2016 - 15th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
Re: St Paddy's Day 2016 - 15th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
Dag! I'd make the trip just to meet Mike W. for all the quality advice he's written like it's first nature. Glad ya'll had a good time. Totally jealous of the east coast guys able to make it over there. I'll have to get some 3lb Atlantic lobster to thoroughly enjoy out of spite

We are truly spoiled, those of us who only have to drive a couple hours or less to attend this grand annual event.
I will only add comments to what has been said already...
Darin, love humpin' you every time I see you.
Charles, you say strangely intelligent things when Saturday night rolls around.
Aaron and Travis, I'm sure you're better golfers than me even though it didn't show in the score (Jim, you need not worry about fitting in). Who cares, the post round lunch was great!
Ramona, tell George I'm not Korean...
Mike B., you're a good cook! And thanks for bringing the 3.3Li, I don't think I'll ever see another one.
Mike W, I'm glad you came by to witness this madness and find out it's true!
Ricky, next time an extra half tray of crack chicken on me!
Frank, thanks for buying the best, extra long lumpias ever!!!
Kyle, good to see you every 5 years...
Noelle, your timely "pops" from the Unicorn were classic!
It's been around 8 or more years since I've seen L.J.
Monica, thanks for bringing the Mustang...what memories!
Ivo, the stroopwafel man!
Having Ray, Jeff B. and John SCB there adds a little dignity to the event.
I'm getting old so apologies for not remembering names: Ralph (who sold me Dinan E28 springs a looooong time ago), Kelly (great food, especially the spinach salad).
And I have one thing to say to Mr. Kohler...gravel!

Boy am I bummed to have missed the event this year.
Lots of guys I wanted to meet, and all the usual suspects that are always great to be around and make me feel so welcome.

Not more I can add that hasn't been stated already, but thanks again Darin and Chas, along with Chris, Ray and Mike, for putting on another epic St. Paddy's Day!!!
It was great partying again with the usual cast of characters, and meeting Aaron, Jim, Charlie, Kyle, MikeW, Travis, LJ, Pablo, and Vic for the first time, this just keeps getting bigger and better every year! (Sorry if I left anyone out, my brain was a little fuzzy by Saturday night)
Thanks Ivo, for turning us all on to the Stroopwafels, best cookie ever! I couldn't find the Sondey brand, but did find some made by Daelmans that will be delivered in a couple of days. Ivo also brought some licorice candy from back home that he shared with us. Picture if you will being sound asleep, and sitting straight up with your eyes wide open in a panicked state. Luckily at Chez Motel 6 the bathroom was only 4 steps from the bed. I jumped out of bed and was dropping them as I ran to the turlet and barely made it. It was like someone opened a fire hydrant. Apparently "licorice" in Dutch means laxative!
Is it next year yet???
Best,
Karl

Anyone meeting up with Ivo in Sacramento for parts? I lost communication with him when he came state side.

Gunner, He will probably stop at my house in Sacramento.

Re: St Paddy's Day 2016 - 15th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
My very first specific mye28 get together. I had met several of this group from other meets but I was still apprehensive about the general tone of the meet. Specifcally from previous meets postings. I am very low key and prefer it that way and the reason I don't post here very much. I keep to BC most of the time but that has had it's share of stupidity. Ahhh the interwebs and those great keyboard warriors.
I was very pleased to have been a part of this year's festivities. Met some great people and renewed old acquaintances (Eric - no way you'll forget Dinans) so it was a very good Saturday. I was also one of the lucky ones to have my windshield survive the trip.
A big THANK YOU to Darin, Chas (I don't know the Karl G fellow very well) and Mike B. Also thanks to Chris K for his lead on keeping the meet going and Vince G. for steering me towards attending. Maybe next year I'll drive a car.
Just a little funny tidbit. I was speaking to Mike B about having a diagnostic port cover for his E9 project and he suddenly got the urge to check his E3 and make sure it was still there. Big sign of facial relief when he saw it was in place.
The one let down was my own failure to meet Mike W. I had forgotten he was attending so it slipped my porous mind.
And Karl G. here is the new end.

I can't take credit for the Lumpia. Frank brought those. Us Flips all look alike (just kidding Mike).
And regards the DP cover - we both know they break the one and only leg trying to get out.

I'm planning on being down that way on the 25th. That was when he said he was planning on being there. Just don't know where I should be or confirming time frame. If you hear from him before I do give him a reminder or heads up.ElGuappo wrote:Gunner, He will probably stop at my house in Sacramento.

Awesome. May have to take you up on that. I will be making a weekend trip of it since I don't do that drive very often. Would be nice not to lug around my bumpers.ElGuappo wrote:If you guys aren't able to actually meet up my house is always open to hold things. I'm just near I5/i80

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that donated to the raffle.
I was voluntold, to get donations, and was surprised with everyone's generosity.
What a great group of people you are. Thank you again.
I also had a great time, and it was great to meet new members, and touch base with old friends.
Darin, and Charles are great hosts for this event, and they always make San Diego feel like my second home.
There are many people that contribute in there own way, and I believe that is what makes it such a success.
( you know who you are )
Looking forward to hang out in San Diego in May at clean car.

Finally I'm getting my pics in here. First off things were going quite well, 30MPG in the touring.

But while sitting in a traffic jam, courtesy of Sony entertainment doing filming in Malibu, the Tesla in front of me suddenly rolled into me so I'm checking out the damage, which fortunately was minimal to our car. A slight crease in the bumper of the Tesla. No backup lights, no brake lights, he just started rolling backwards oblivious to my horn.

And here is Mike B's gorgeous 3.3Li, perhaps the only one in the country. He downplays it, but it's a stunning car.

One shot of the cars out at the bay.

Our other fine host out at the bay.

The stanced look isn't my style, but points for detail. The offset is matched to the car so the fender actually fits between the tire and the wheel.

One side of the street at Darin's

And the other side of the street.

The front yard at Darin's.

Eric inspecting the raffle items.

Can you tell this is a guys house? A motorcycle in the living room along with a windshield or two.

Somehow it didn't seem like it would be complete without a pic of Kyle.

One of our gracious hosts raffling off the immaculate steering wheel donated by the Parts Pimp.

Okay, better late than never I suppose.
It's been a Hellacious week since we got back into Los Angeles last Sunday. Between family issues, work and dropping the engine out of the M535i I haven't really had a chance to even download the images off the camera let alone much anything else.
So here it goes:
St. Paddy's Day Meet 2016

As is customary and hugely important: MANY, MANY thanks to Darin, Charles and Mike for making this happen again this year. They are the heartblood and soul of this event and pretty much make this THE only party I look forward to every year. Not to forget others that continue to make this work as well: Ray, Chris, Ricky and probably a few others I am missing that the moment.

As everyone says (because it's true) this event is about the people, the BMW's just happen to be excuse we all use migrate to San Diego for the week/weekend. There was a great turn-out with the usual suspects whom are great to reconnect with after a winter break; but it was really nice to see some new folks, fresh blood as they say in attendance as well. As has become customary it was a treat to have a handful of out-of-towners finally getting the chance to see what this event is all about; hopefully they all left with good impressions and some memories (not all bad I hope).

It was great to see Ivo again, this year with two comrades in tow (Ine these two weren't):

Oh yeah, there were some great looking cars there last weekend also:

We had a gaggle of E39's in attendance this year: 4 all together. The blue one is Charles', Doug Park's is the M5 on the right, and mine is peaking in on the left. Mike W came down from north in his Touring to make the four:

Good times, good cars, good friends.

Looks like a good time was had by all, as would be expected. Wish I could've made it. Those guys are the best.
