Well I must admit that you were doing a great job of keeping that thing moving with a blown strut.
Somebody told you to get behind me if you were looking for quick... I notice you behind me and say to peter " isnt that the guy with the blown strut?" Pete says "Yea" I say "well its gonna be hard for him to keep up lets see what hes got" I never shook you, you were on my ass!!!! I was a bit dejected but felt slightly vindicated after I found out you were a driving instructor.. hahaha... what a hoot! It was a pleasure running with you!

We should have road kill snacks after each days drive..hahaha1st 5er wrote:So... that's what a blown strut looks like?
Hoping the replacements give you good service.
A driving instructor?![]()
Would that include how to properly dodge a deer?
Just a thought, in case Mr. Twisty decided to add a bit of flavor to the 2014 event.
A little venison jerky perhaps
Do it on the way down, then there will be stories to tell! Involve the Tail along the way, of course.KillerPM wrote:RTT2014 is looking like it will either begin or end at 5erFest Chattanooga...
I will say that I wasn't a fan of the 1.5 car wide roads. They would be great for a closed tarmac rally, but pretty dicey for 2 way traffic.

The RTT tour after 5erFest would be a challenge.Coldswede wrote:RTT 2014 ending at 5erFest would be cool. Nothing like four days worth of war stories to share, in the parking lot gatherings, with those less fortunate! Did I hear "Tail of the Dragon"?![]()

Besides something tells me the hangover from 5erFest would sorely dent much "spirited driving" for a day or so.

Gotta disagree with you, man. Those are the BEST!dsmith wrote: I will say that I wasn't a fan of the 1.5 car wide roads. They would be great for a closed tarmac rally, but pretty dicey for 2 way traffic.
Did you really encounter any opposing traffic on those roads?
1 or 2 cars?
Orlando and I didn't have any opposing traffic on that gravel road...

No lines, no speed limits, no idea what's around the next bend/crest/dip. I keep on thinking about how brave (and lucky) we are to attack each of the stages the way we do. I mean, it's a "cold" course, just a "google spy" look, I'm assuming.

Count me in for 2014, too many signs pointing to it being a good idea. Aside from the 2011 video, which is a pretty priceless documentary, the other night my wife had just landed a solid downshift on our S38 into a pretty tight corner when a bearded dude in a 528e gave a high beam flash and had a huge smile on his face, mid turn, as we were passing one another going opposite directions.
I probably should have put this in the "missed connections" section of the ATL Craigslist, but pretty sure that beardo encounter convinced me that I need to find myself at an event like RTT soon!

I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!KillerPM wrote:Cool.
I think starting at the dragon (Because Fontana Village is one of the best resorts we have ever stayed in) and ending at 5erFest might just be the plan!
Obviously more solid details and stuff will be available in the new year.
I think next year will be the best RTT and the best 5erFest EVER!

I would like to throw Gatlinburg in as a "maybe" destination as well. Maybe it's a little too touristy?KillerPM wrote:Cool.

As long as it has twisty roads in and out of it, we are game!
If we decide to do RTT to 5erFest, I would be more than willing to 'author' the route from Gatlinburg to Chatty. Or vice versa if RTT is after.
