No, I beg to differ. An average security guard would have called in sick. It's the better than average one that can party all night and still make it into work. Even if suffering a bit.

So I made loaded potato soup tonite. I never ever ever made soup in my life before. Very tasty. They have a soup bar at the Sprouts grocery & even though it's too expensive, I buy it sometimes, the sprouts version of loaded potato soup. My loaded potato soup was different recipe, but in the same taste neigbourhood. Yum. Got it on recipe source. dot com. Now I'm gonna go post about auto repair in a cooking forum. Tonites dinner also includes fresh greens salad & Bison rib-eye from the local health food store that Sprouts is taking business from. Gotta keep em open & buy a bison steak every now & then.

Loaded "Baked" Potato Soup

8 ounces bacon, chopped
3 lbs russet potatoes, scrubbed
1 large onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
1 sprig fresh thyme
4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, plus additional for garnish
1 cup sour cream, plus additional for garnish
ground black pepper
3 scallions, sliced thin

Went to the package store this evening*. It's a tight parking lot, only one row of spaces and only one lane of pass through traffic. There's a black Dodge Ram parked, running, sitting in the middle of the pass-through lane with nobody inside. I almost couldn't get my car into my favorite space. I head inside the store. 3 candidates for this infraction. Two work at one of my favorite local bars. They're cool, not candidates. Then I spot the guy with the full on mullet.

Watched him pay, walk out to the trunk, and drive off.

Fuck mullets and the pickup driving assholes who wear them. Seriously.

In related news, there are quite a few 'bro trucks' here... I think Marines coming back from the war started this entire movement (the backwoods farmboys just perfected it by writing it off on taxes)...
Anyway, I guess a law got passed about a requirement for mud flaps on... Well any truck, I think. Apparently, it's a Primary Offense, so guys are getting pulled over left and right and getting informed of the new law.

We have bigger issues here in North Mexico, but whatever.

The mud flap law is a good one, IMHO. It cuts way down on the small rocks and whatnot trucks can throw at my windshield. And in rain and snow storms, where visibility is already reduced, it really cuts down on the spray coming off of vehicles that size.

I'd still like a deuce and a half just so I could look down on those posers in their jacked up toys. Even though you clock 0-50 by sundial and get permanent ear damage by the end of a standing quarter mile.

I went to the Turner County Fair with the family last night, and the Parker Ford dealership had several pickups on display there. I was shocked at the sticker prices on some of them; a standard cab F150 4x4 with cloth seats, 5L V8, and aluminum wheels was just north of $38k. For a pickup. I've been out of the new vehicle market for a long time I guess.

Meanwhile, elsewhere at the fair...

I used to look down on most pickup trucks with my YJ Wrangler on 30" tires. That changed in recent years as standard sized pickups have gotten stupid big, but it was fun anyway. I honestly wonder how some of those stock pickup trucks tow anything with the bumper and hitch so far up off the ground. Drop hitch I suppose.

Speaking of: I recently helped with the group Oklahomans for Health, based out of Tulsa. They, or we as a group were given a 90 day window to collect 156 thousand registered oklahoma voters signatures for a petition to legalized medical mj in Oklahoma. If we got enough, it would appear as a state question on November 4th ballot. It would also decriminalize it to some degree. Up to 1.5 ounces would be reduced to a civil fine, no chance of felony. It would allow retail sales at dispensaries with 7 percent sales tax, 75% of that goes to schools. 25% goes to drug & alcohol rehab. $125 application fee to get your medical card with qualified medical condition signed off by medical Dr. We delivered 37 boxes of petitions to the state capitol today to the secretary of states office. We didn't get enough, I'm not sure how short, but it was over 120K I am told.
I was suprised when collecting signatures, who approached to sign. Plenty of 40 & 50 somethings, many medical professionals who had witnessed cancer patients & others who said they wanted to see it legalized. Not a bunch of hippies or 20 somethings wanting to get "high", like those sheep above, you can tell they are stoned, look at them eating.

If anyone else in any southern or "red" states get any inpsiration from this, I urge you to sign up as a volunteer & make it happen.
We paid for an independant polling company about 2 years ago to do a poll. % 71 of Okies think medical marijuana should be legal.
Our incumbent governer just flip flopped on medical MJ, but only CBD oil. We registered a record number of new voters while collecting signatures too. These boxes of petition signatures were turned in at 4:20 PM today, seriously, I was there to witness. We have 2 watchers who get to spend next 2 weeks at the state capitol watching the government officals count the 20 signatures on each page, to make sure they don't toss any or ?

I know they decoded the human genome, but I wonder if they found the one for dancing. Regardless, I don't have it. Tonight was the weekly summer farmers market/live music in town which I greatly enjoy. As long as I'm sitting down. I can do a lot of things, a number of them quite well, but don't ask me to dance. The rare occasions I've tried I've felt like I was having a public, voluntary seizure. Not fun. It is something I want to do in my next lifetime though, people who do it really seem to enjoy it. But I'd rather have a root canal, pay cash, then go directly to the DMV and wait in line. I just don't have that gene.

I took a second job to try make some extra cash, I sold a vacuum today. Yay!

I wish I'd been getting some much needed drive time on my new ride.
