Just got the .014 off-set dowel pins for the scatter shield.

The measurements now are 0 vertically and .005 horizontally. .010 is max run-out. I LOVE it when everything works as planned.

Now its GAME ON time. Getting the clutch in, tranny on and then running a hydraulic line the the slave cylinder to fully test the clutch movement before it goes in the car. Then it's INSTALL time.

Take a look at this video of the clutch movement -

Let me know if you think it looks like the actuation will be far enough to disengage the clutch.

The off-set dowel in place.

Flywheel and friction disk intalled.

Pressure plate installed.

Hmmm. What limits the travel? I bet it is fine but it might take some getting used to for smooth low speed engagements.

The volume of fluid. The capacity of the master and slave cylinder are what determines the movement. The master is new and I just rebuilt the slave. The pedal feels good with full slave movement from the top of the pedal travel. I know its good but I want a warm and fuzzy from others before I shoehorn it in the car.

back in the day,
my friend's dad was into Sand Drag racing,
hopped up 4x4 Jeeps with paddle tires on them,
his clutch exploded without a scatter shield and it took
all the toes off of his Gas Pedal foot...

yep, I would have one if I had the hp/tq to require one...

Bah. With that monster under the hood, he'll just get tire spin anyway. ;)

Lookin' good, Duke!

Can't say I'm a Tiger-lover, but I don't think there's a gearhead alive who wouldn't say that's a beautiful motor. Nice work.

X2. Very nice Duke. I'm truly envious of what you've got going on. Makes my crappy little dirty Euro project look, well, dirty. And Euro.

First off....thanks again for the encouraging words guys.

Install day....got back from Alex's soccer game and started in around 1400.....six hours later, its in. Using a dolly and engine lift, I did it myself. Very little room to work with. I am smoked.

The headers are worth every cent. They are an amazing fit in the very tight space. I am NOT happy with the jet-hot coating that has dulled in areas just from the dyno runs. $300 down the shitter as far as I am concerned.

Front crossmember with wheels goes on tomorrow and then I can get everything in and the engine running. Shooting for the exhaust shop Thursday the latest.

First off, the fact that those headers even fit gives one pause. Talk about a tight squeeze. It looks awesome. As far as the coating, I feel the same way. I dropped ~$225 and couldn't be more disappointed in how it has worn. I have them back out for the motor swap and while I haven't decided how I will refinish them, no way it hell will it be Jet-Hot. Mine's a daily driver and I have serious rust on the bottom exposed areas. I thought Jet-Hot was supposed to be bad ass. Never again. I hear nickel is good.

I just called JET-HOT. I wish I had read the care and warranty paperwork. The engine dyno caused the damage. High rpm, high heat and no airflow did the damage. To their credit, I have three years to send them back in for a free recoat...."just don't mention the dyno".

Can't wait. I am going to have some steel wheels made for the rear....what drag tires do you recommend? They gotta be available in 13" though.

I thought 14" wheels fit? There are plenty of 13" slicks available due to the Hondas. I like M/T et drag slicks.

They would but 13" would give me more sidewall.....you want that correct?

Sure. 24.5x8.5x13 would work well if they will fit.

Somehow, I injured my lower back yesterday. So with motrin and methocarbamol in my system I soldiered on.

Getting closer.....should start it tomorrow. Just have to bleed the brakes/clutch, attach the drive shaft, do some engine wiring and install the carb. Then tighten/fix whatever I forgot. I have learned to tighten everything as if I were about to use it and not "come back to it".

Image
Headers looking sweet. The 1.5 hours to attach the clutch line was not so sweet.

Image
Good thing I sorted it out (for the most part) on a engine dyno.

I wonder how my neighbors are going to like the sound of eight cylinders coming out of open headers? Will find out.

Tiger is at the shop getting a custom 2 1/4" duel exhaust. Went with flowmaster mufflers, crossover just behind the collectors and an O2 bung in each collector.

I removed the Holley carb due to the idle circuts not working. Has the 1.12 Autolite on it now.

The drive to the shop was interesting and loud to say the least. I wore ear muff hearing protection and it was still loud. Should get the car back today.

I bet you're pretty damn psyched right now, like a kid on Christmas eve.

You should crash Vintage with it.

OPERATION TIGER'S TEETH COMPLETE

Image
2 1/4" pipe from the collectors back. Cross tube is 2" and is flat on top for tranny clearance. I also had O2 bungs installed in each collector.

Image
50 series Flowmaster mufflers. It's nice and quiet.

Image
Just about fnished......lots of "sorting out" to do. The Holley is back on. The 4100 Autolite just would not work correctly. I discovered that I installed the wrong base gasket on the Holley and the idle circuit ports were blocked. With the correct gasket, it idles like a dream now. I will defiantly set the rev limiter today.

Now the constant tweaking begins.

BTW - not even past half throttle and the car is just stupid, scary fast. One might even say dangerous.......just the way I like it!

Not just yet....every ride is a thrill ride for me right now. I have to relearn the car's performance envelope. It might just be bigger than my personal comfort envelope....reminds me of flying an Apache.

With the closest leg over nine hours away......I just can't swing it this year. I will trust this car for a long distance trip in about 4-6 months. Too many things can go wrong while teething.

Not to mention Claudia would have my ass after what I just spent on this project. :(
