Yea I know, will see what the actual dyno tells.

Make sure you get some nice video of the engine on the dyno!
I <3 engine dynos.

I just over doubled the HP in the Acadia.
Now the challenge to not forget anything I need so I don't have to return from the dyno on Monday.

After ~5 hours of work, engine was finally on the dyno ready to be started for the first time. As seen and heard (back fire through he exhaust) timing is way off. I had also just gotten a call from work and my brief to a GO was moved up....I had to go. Will pull the valve cover off in the morning to check that #1 is TDC on the compression stroke and then re stab the distributer. Tomorrow should be a day of many power runs.

Quick post
Numbers:
415 lb-ft torque @ 4800
416 HP @ 5800.
On the Holley 600 DP. Ran out of time. I bet there is at least another 70 HP to be squeezed out of it.

What!!!
No Video this time....
ahh, that's BS!!
You know the drill,
No Pics = it didn't happen...
You got the timing issue fixed, obviously....
Great numbers for first try!!!

Yes it does.
So here are the numbers -

No fancy graph, just a dot matrix print out. I was disappointed he did not do from 1500 rpm on up. He claimed he was not able to do it. No matter, will get all of that info on a chassis dyno.
Here is the video - The sparks are from the flywheel ring-gear contacting the steel scatter shield. Both are his and will not be on my car.

I'm sure you'll see large gains once you start tuning it.

Timing....what a PITA. Lets talk about what hell I went through with timing today.
1. Pulled the valve cover over #1 to determine TDC for the compression stroke. Discovered there were two identical sets of 0-40 degree timing marks oriented the same way ~45 degrees apart (there are others that face the other direction for a pointer on the other side) on the balancer. I had obviously referenced the wrong one. So I marked the correct with white paint.
2. Got it running and discovered that if the distributer was not really tightened down, it would turn and retard the timing. This would happen over 3000 rpm. That screwed up some runs.
3. The mechanical advance weights in the BRAND STINKING NEW BIG $$$$ MSD distributer kept get stuck in the rotor cap. I had to remove the cap and do surgery with a dremel to correct the problem (calling MSD tomorrow). This also screwed up runs when I discovered the advance would not go past 20 degrees and was stuck partially advanced.
So, you can see why I was happy with the 416 HP and got the hell out of there. Will do the rest of the tuning with it in the car and/or a chassis dyno.
Almost makes my EFI days seem easier...............almost.

Bellhousing Alignment.
Checked bore concentricity and parallelism.

The bore alignment was off .020 at the 12 O'clock and .015 at 9 O'clock. Will correct it with a set of .014 offset dowels. Trans mounting surface was withing specs for being parallel.
Starter test fit, looks really good and will easily clear the headers.

I think you may find lots of power after correcting all that mess.

Awesome engine, awesome build. Can't wait till I'm caught up with you!
...may have to consider twin turbos on the V12 to keep up with you..

I always wondered what real purpose this 'scatter plate' serves? I just put a new one on the 351w I'm working on since the old one was bent.

Duke - this has been a fun build to read about - do keep it up!
The past week or so we've been watching "Get Smart" reruns with the kids, so every time I see his car I think about what *could* get stuffed under that little hood.....

Your build is amazing. I am just improving and modifying existing hardware. You are creating something new....big difference.
Nebraska_e28 wrote:I always wondered what real purpose this 'scatter plate' serves?
The purpose is to save your legs if the flywheel and or clutch explodes. The steel shrapnel would pass right through an aluminum bellhousing. The steel scatter shield prevents this. I had to replace the bellhousing anyway going from a five to six bolt block, scatter shield was a no brainer.
MicahO wrote:every time I see his car I think about what *could* get stuffed under that little hood.....
It still amazes me looking at the car in the garage and then the 347 sitting next to it that that engine will be in that little car.
