I just contacted BMW of Minnetonka, MN. They claim that there are zero windshields available for my 1985 535i in the entire world. I pressed the guy saying that folks on this forum have claimed that BMW NA can get windshields now (as of 2019). The guy assured me that he cannot order a windshield from Europe. They are out of stock and no longer being made at all.

Can anyone else confirm?

Sorry If I was wrong. Try calling a dealership in Canada (not mentioning you're in the US) and seeing what they say. If production is finished forever, that would be a very bad thing. I suspect they might have run out of their last batch, but I cannot imagine them leaving glass entirely to the aftermarket. Good luck!

Go back and read page 7 to review what was said about the ordering process....BMW needs to open a special case to order the Euro windshield. It in fact may no longer being produced....Saint Grobain. It nothing else contact Schmiedmann and see if they can get it....even if you can't buy it from them. Doubtful they'll try USA delivery again. I think there may be another thread on this board about this but I don't have the link. Also you may want to contact HayekFan to see if he knows anything else on this....I know he was in the prowl.

Good luck....

Yes, they are all gone now. The Green/ Green band one was the only one that they remade, and they were available until recently ( like last fall).

That's a bummer. Hope you didn't spend too much time doing a deep dive like I did. For me it was a months and months process trying to get one of these...I almost jumped at a Turkish one said to be OEM'ish, checked them out online. If Schmeidmann can't help you're out of luck.

If I were doing it again I'd just suck it up and let my install guys buy the Chinese stuff and hope for the best...that'd be the fastest, easiest and cheapest.

It all depends on the condition of your E28. Mine is garaged. Nevertheless, I don't want a windshield that will force me to never drive the car in the rain for fear of leaks causing rust. It took me a couple years to find what I needed.

If anyone goes this route, word is that a Chinese supplier by the name of “Benson Auto Glass” makes E28 windshields with correctly-shaped corners now. I believe they ship domestically out of Texas.

Really? Where did you hear this? I called them, they said they are only a wholesaler, and they don't have any installers in Minneapolis.

The search continues...

Yes, they are a manufacturer, not an installer. You would have to get the glass from them and have someone else install it.

It was initially discussed on the E28 Facebook page so I threw up a post here and a member with experience chimed in and had good things to say.
