It sounds like you would do well to hook up with the AZ contingent for the trek over Friday AM. There is nothing official going on Thursday but both Charles and I are taking the day off to prepare for the onslaught. You are welcome to stop by for early beers and BS if you are in the hood.travisj wrote:I'm kind of winging it on this trip. I didn't make any hotel reservations, so I am not locked into any time schedule. I am leaving Denver late Wednesday night and expecting to be around Phoenix late afternoon Thursday. I will either stop in Phoenix for Thursday night or keep running to San Diego.
Is there any plan for those around Thursday evening? I could possibly move my schedule up and make there early evening on Thursday for actual St Paddy's Day celebration.

41st and Crenshaw???? Fuck! You'd better sit in the corner with a semi auto cannon in your hands. Screw leaving the light on!!!oldskool wrote:That the house at 41st and Crenshaw? Better keep the lights on.

41st Street does not intersect Crenshaw...
Re: St Paddy's Day 2016 - 15th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
Sure it does. You take the 405, get off at Crenshaw, loop around and catch the extension. Just not after 3pm, or the first of the month.

Very true, I was on Stocker and Crenshaw. Two blocks South of 41st.Kenny Blankenship wrote:41st Street does not intersect Crenshaw...

Travis, you can crash at my house if you end up staying in Az on Thursday... Wife and kids are out of town so there will be plenty of room...travisj wrote:I'm kind of winging it on this trip. Not quite. You end up 150 streets south at the Exxon Mobil refinery...oldskool wrote:Sure it does. You take the 405, get off at Crenshaw, loop around and catch the extension. Just not after 3pm, or the first of the month.

The last time I was in Sandy Eggo I was a teenager. One thing that stuck to memory was I went to a curbside taco stand and had the best (and IMO) authentic taco I ever tasted. Not like the Mexican food up here, but real homemade food. Ahab and I will be arriving before lunch tomorrow and probably hungry to explore the local eateries soon as we hit the pavement. We are staying at the Sheraton Four Points on Aero Dr.
I like to try regional foods as I travel around. At Vintage I always look for barbecue, in SoCal I would imagine Mexican dishes are pretty authentic.

I was going to suggest South Beach. http://southbeachob.com/Tacos.shtmlMotronic wrote: I like to try regional foods as I travel around.

That right there is motivation to get my ass there ASAP! I will be departing in approximately 3 hours. Should be about an 18 hour trip, so that puts me there around lunch time if I only stop for a couple hours along the way.

Good, we'll meet you there. We will need a designated driver because that picture says legless all over it! Plus I don't think Karls car needs a paint job just yet.travisj wrote:That right there is motivation to get my ass there ASAP! I will be departing in approximately 3 hours. Las Cuatro Milpas in the Barrio Logan area. Generally long lines and worth it. Right off the 5 freeway past downtown. Sorry, it doesn't have a view of the beach, though. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn Express Mission Bay near Garnet and the 5 freeway starting Thursday night.Motronic wrote:The last time I was in Sandy Eggo I was a teenager. Ortega's is also very good but no beach view either.

Long lines = good (generally).Karl Grau wrote:They’ll have to go without me.Kenny Blankenship wrote:Las Cuatro Milpas in the Barrio Logan area. Generally long lines and worth it.
Just have to figure out when is the right time to go. May try to go on Friday morning before golf, I'd be surprised if the lines are real long at opening time.

Two good places by the airport if you need a taco fix right away:
El Indio on India Street. Old school Mexican - been open since the 40s. Very good beef tacos
Lucha Libre- around the corner on Washington street. New Cal Mexican joint with a Mexican wrestling theme. Darn good burritos.
1810 W. Washington Street
San Diego, CA 92103

Anyone going to the Midway Thursday afternoon? Burritos after you land then full afterburners on the flight deck?Karl Grau wrote:I have two free tickets for the USS Midway Museum if anyone is interested. I would prefer they go to someone visiting from out of town though.

I could get into that. I think the person next to me on the plane may have tried something similar...

^^^^If this fog doesn't burn off, you might not be landing in San Diego.

I'm down. just enjoyed 4 of the south beach bar tacos and a couple beers.
