No wonder I haven't heard from you lately. You've been BUSY.

This is inspiring and depressing at the same time; I seriously lack the amount of OCD you possess.
I have to get my ass in gear if I have any hope to finish before Monterey in August.

Awesome job and can't wait to see it in person.

I just goggled Maxjax, very cool. I've never seen that before. Are you happy with it? Stunning build, looks amazing. Thank you for posting this here.

Sorry for the late response.

At first I was against the idea of using a Maxjax. My shop room mate Andy had purchased this one and I have to say it has been fantastic. There are a few little quirks about it, you're supposed to bleed the lines each time you connect it. The simple solution is to disconnect it as little as possible. I've used it quite a bit on this project and on the M5 when I was doing the suspension. I would recommend it, just make sure you properly secure it to the garage floor.

Re: My coupe (caution many photos) interior bits

Post by OcCoupe »

Watching and being involved with the interior has been rewarding. Juan is a true artist and has been very tolerant of my busybody nature. We (he) started attacking the door panels and rear quarters. I brought at least 4 of each panel to him and none were jumping out as being in great shape. We agreed from the beginning that Juan would make the majority of the panel in leather but the basket weave would need to be harvested. Unfortunately we didn't have much to work with. In addition my coupe is a later '73 and doesn't have the plug for the winder access; so I sourced the basket weave vinyl and had some dye matched so that I could paint the material.

After dying. The match is pretty good but it needs a few more coats.

Juan also started on the map pocket. This is really a lot of work and requires a ton of massaging and thought.

Since I opted for a non standard color we had to make a decision on what to do with the door pulls. Do we dye them or wrap them in leather? I like leathers!
