Thank you Tim! No, as usual I have the cart before the horse and we are building it for spec. In April, this project became a very slippery slope and we have just spared no expense whatsoever! The interior and trunk are pretty much complete and the wheels are out getting some rubber on them. I will try to post some more pics this week.

Winding down this project as the car leaves for Monterey a week from today. Still on the 7 day 12 hour program and trying to wrap up all of the loose ends. The last 4 days have been quite a challenge as fitment and perfection are clashing and things are just taking a little longer to get done. Motor should go in today and all of the suspension is complete and the wheels and tires went on yesterday. Interior went in over the weekend, as well as the M5 trunk. Paul Ladue is coming in from Dallas tomorrow and helping install the gauge pod and bringing the newly rennovated instrument cluster. Now....back to work!

More amazing than I imagined. So where exactly is this being shown? My friend here at work is driving either his '67 Alfa stepnose GT or his '69 GTV to see the Concorso Italiano. I'm going to have him keep an eye out for your car if he is planning on attending any of the other events that week.

did you get the screws on the OBC sorted out?

i'm hoping parts for my e28 get here before sun so i can get it up and running, to bring it by and scavenge from that parts car!

You have to love the passion of the E28 group, even an E28 that is need of some reupholstery and attention to the odds and ends that come from 20+ years on this earth still derive "thumbs-ups".

No matter where your passions or finances lie, the final product that is this car is one that the BMW community at large will enjoy.
I don't think Eddie meant any disrespect about your car, Trey. I will say that this car was second only to my euro M5 as far as a solid platform goes. It had NO rust at all, the body was straight and everything that we didn't have to re-new (leather bits, etc.) was solid. Hopefully this car in it's newly clad wears it will bring more attention to the e28 world. As I have said before, I owned one of the first Hartge H5S to ever hit this side of the pond, and my friends still talk about that car. It is like no other e28 I have ever driven. It has raw, crisp power off the line largely due to the 2.5/2.8 intake and the 3:25 LSD with the c/r 5 speed and of course great power throughout the rev range.

First off, I love what Ron is doing to the car. While the darker stripes will need to grow on me, I won't miss the body kit that was! And some things I've wanted to post on this thread in good fun, but haven't, include:

1. "What's the big deal? They (Ron's crew) just put a Hartge valve cover on it, got some new wheels and buffed it out!" (Kinda funny...maybe?)

2. Pending release at Monterey and what-have-you... "That's my old car!" (Meaning it hasn't really changed since I owned it.... Even less funny, maybe?)

OK, enough of that.

As many in the community who know me and the car know, I loved this car. I looked after it for 4 years or so and did what I could for it given my remote location and limited funding. So, I feel like many who visit here feel about their own cars, I was attached to it. It was one of my babies. For those keen on memory who have followed the car, I stated in a thread (in so many words) that I was like a proud papa sending my child off to an Ivy League school (or something in cheesy fun along those lines). The car wasn't a cherry by any means, it had it's rough spots, and while Ron has taken the restoration to the extreme level, it could have gotten by with less and still turned heads. Ron just went over the top, which is great.

Thanks for backing me up on the condition when it made it's way to you, Ron. I guess I inferred from Eddie's comment that it was a "cash for clunker" candidate... I guess I was wrong. No harsh feelings here. Now, let's get back to feeling the love for this project, people. I am no longer involved with the car, and this thread is about the car!

I know someone is going to smack me for this, but I am too lazy to go back and read all pages again. Is it an actualy Hartge car or a clone?

I thought you had read all seven pages? :laugh: Yes, it's the real deal. A Performance Plus car out of Florida and still has all of their markings. It was once owned by Scott Epstein when he worked for PP.

Hat's off to you for saving it and to Ron for finishing it to this level. It's going to be quite a piece. Adrian and I have discussed the B9 and H5S similarities and differences a few times. Though I have not driven Adrian's car, my sense was that while they made the same power, that the Hartge was a bit less refined (in a good way) and with the CR box, it was obviously geared differently. I will tell you this, I have run aside Adrian's car in the Euro M5 and I could not get past him. I think post 100 mph, I might have pulled away because of the extra horses, but up to 100 it was a dead heat. Since then, I have had the top end rebuilt so it may be a bit different now, but the Hartge is very strong indeed. My sense is that it delivers power (though similar in performance) a bit differently than the B9 as well. I will be very excited to read a full report on the driving experience on this pup. Very exciting.

Yo, RP, did you gey your judging pass for the rearview mirror, the letter and the fancy map yet, I got my stuff in the mail today, but mine just has the ol corral pass, I decided to step aside and let you have the trophy. :laugh:

I was floored to see how many E28's are entered into the same category, "Open class (any model year) - concourse".
I'm going to love seeing those beautiful E28's. :alright:

Again, I look forward to seeing the BB Hartge soon! :banana:
