Thanks!

...does not show the idle but, this Tiger has a 349 stroker with the same cam I have.

Headers (SNAKES!) first test fit. I was concerned about the header bolt clearance and most importantly, the ability to still use a spin on oil filter. All looks great with no issues.

A very well made set of headers.

Stripping the current engine. Getting it ready to be dropped out the bottom.

Image
My little parts table. Everything that will go on the new engine will have to be fully detailed of course.

Image
Four 3/4" bolts, two brake line connection and the steering rack disconnected and wallah! The complete front end is out.

Image

Engine is about ready to come out. Just a few bolts to go.

It's out..........was very easy, with proper planning. A one man job with no engine lift.

Image
A German dolly I brought back with some 2X4s and ratchet straps. Took me a few hours to figure out how to do it without building a cradle.

Image
One additional strap to secure the engine to the dolly.

Image
Disconnecting the trans mount and then once lowered with engine weight on the dolly, the engine mounts.

Image
With a floor jack lifting at the center of the frame crossmember....body up, engine just rolls out.

Image
A little counter weight in the trunk helps a lot.

Image
Out with the old, ready with the new.

Image
One happy engine dropper. Now it's time to parts swap, clean and detail, detail....and then more detail.

Rocker Geometry............check!

Image
With 1.895" rocker studs and 6.50" pushrods, the rocker geometry is now correct.

Love all of the chrome moly steel and aluminum!

Image
The original valve covers fit! Great news.

Thanks Bro! The weights would be a little harsh on my trunk bodywork though.

I remember helping my dad switch out a tranny when I was a kid,
he put me on my back on the creeper,
then dropped the trannie on to my chest,
had me wrap my arms around it,
then pull me back out by my feet....

I guess Alex was busy when you dropped the motor??

INTAKE TIME!

Image
The Fel-Pro gaskets fit the heads just about perfect.

Image
The intake manifold....not so much. Flipping the gasket around and using it as a template yielded the metal that will be removed for the intake to match the head. Just a little bit right........good thing I just bought two new carbide die grinders.

That is HARD CORE......explains some about you too.

Alex helped, he took the pictures, brought me tools and moved the jack stands. He is really starting to dig the car thing.

My port matching work station.

AKA....work bench.

Remember this? ....circa 2001.

Finished! I really need a bigger air compressor. Could have done the job in 1/4 the time if I did not have to wait on it constantly.

A view down the manifold and into one of the intake runners. The manifold is just set on, the ridge at the top will be reduced when it is bolted down.

Image
Intake gaskets all glued in place and about ready for final manifold bolt down.

That looks very nice Duke. Are you sure that drive shaft is short enough?

So now that the Le Tigre is close to completion, what is next? Oh! I have an idea! Build us an E28. I bet you can do it. :deadhorse:

It's funny all this time I thought the Tiger was red, but I see it's really pink! Somehow Duke in a pink car just does not seem ...right.

Isn't that sweet. No center bearing, no guibo and no week-ass U joints.

No

Isn't it nice to build a car with your BEAR HANDS?

The ideas we come up with when we don't have an extra back or two to help lighten the load.

Can't wait till my boy is old enough to pass wrenches reliably.
He's coming out to the garage this year (he'll be 3 in june).

A side-by-side of the new clutch fork (left) with much "beefier" bracket net to the original with wimpy bracket.

A trial assembly of the slave cylinder bracket, rod and clutch fork to see how it all works together on the new scatter shield.

Have the new distributer in place and the wires run. Seems like and easy thing but I had to replace all of the wire endcaps at the distributer to connect to the new cap. This took three hours. The firing order is different with the roller cam so I had to get that correct.

The distributor is at the wrong end of the motor, Duke...
it's much better when it is up tight against the firewall
to make it harder to adjust and work on....
coming from a Chevy Guy of course... ;)
Ford did do better with that....

Looks good, bro...keep up the good work!!!
