Your solution looks great. I have a lot going on besides these little projects at the moment. It's not dead and I hope we can preserve all the research done in here.
Eventually I will finish it, I promise!

Would be great to see the M5 345x42's in the calculations also. I can provide the measurements both front and back if needed?

Talked to one today that given up on finding the rear Nürburgring brakes and carriers for 328x20 disks.
So he started to experiment. And found out that E90 carriers has the extra depth he needed that is unique to the 34212227875 carriers. Only drawback are that the sliders are further apart. But by fixing X5 calipers to it he got bolt on rear set for the 328x20 disks on his E34 M5. That should also make it a bolt on to E28
Nice bonus with that setup was also that he can now use more inexpensive pads that has the 42mm clip. Not the unique expensive 40mm clip pads that the Nürburgring brakes has.

Stock e28 brakes work well with focused pads, but are generally undersized with average pads.
E28 M5/E24 M6 both NEED bigger rear brakes to equalize the balance. They need E34 rear brakes, either vented or non doesn't really matter
My budget solution to braking involves keeping the overall rotor weight down. It also allows you to run a 15" wheel.
This means E32 740 rotors, E34/E32 front calipers, and E34 rear brakes. Nice pad selection if you wanted to do autocross or track days.
Overall low cost, low weight and improved performance. Stock booster or larger booster is personal preference.
E36 M3's are much lighter cars here in the US, but have the same system practically as E32/E34's.
tschultz wrote:In an E28 M5 the front brake rotors will warp with stock rears because they are too much front biased. When you add the 540i rears, the same thing happens where the bias goes slightly too far rear, but is slightly less pronounced since there is SLS and a battery in the back. I installed the same calipers in the rear and noticed the same phenomenon. The ABS makes it more difficult to tell, but the system is modulating rear brake lock if the pads are the same front to rear.
The 528e, 535i and 635CSi all have their batteries up front and lighter rear end than the M5 and E32/ E34 540i/M5.
This results in rear biased brakes which I found out at the track.

What's the piston diameter on those calipers? I suspect 4x42mm? If those calipers just weren't so heavy...
Can you clarify a little more about the rears? So a combination of one of the E390 carriers (which one, 300mm or 334mm rear rotor?) combined with a E53/E70? rear caliper will line up with a 328x20mm disk for the rear?

Got more details from him now.
It was the E90 carriers from the 330mm disks. And E53 X5 4.4 calipers marked 42/20. This calipers has banjo connections. And some Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia lines (did not get model) with banjo in one end fitted the E34.
Update:
He used the E46 M3 pads. They suppose to have same dimentions as the Nurburgring pads. But with the correct 42mm springs the X5 caliper will take, instead of the 40mm springs on the original 328mm E34 pads.

Hey Guys,
Any chance For those who have fitted 996 rear brakes, willing to share the sketch/dimensions for the for the 996 rear adapter? PM me.
Would save me some time retrofitting the calipers. I would be happy to provide compensation for this transaction.
Thanks!

Hello & happy new year!
Finally had some time off and managed to fab up 996 brackets:
Just test fitted them on the trailing arm and im very happy with the results so far.
I´ll try to post more photots briefly.
EDIT. Pics are visible now. Pieces are yet to be surface finished, They will be hard anodized.

Yo Enthusiasts,
Here comes few more pics...
Had to do few iterations until the fitment was flush.. As always with prototyping.
Bolts are temporary, i could not find propoer ones

Brakediscs are 750iL 328x20.

Looks cool Ben.
Stopping is good!
Not messing with mine anymore.
Drive it till I die.
Try Belmetric.com for bolts.

Guys, the rear brake adapter up there isn’t my work!
I wish I could say so!
I will, in the next weeks, finalize my spreadsheet for the brake calcs and add some know how to the first page that I have gained while working on this project.
It’s not always about bigger.
I just ordered a RHD E90 vacuum booster which will be used in my 535. Trying out some things.

Thanks Benny

Keep the good things rollin´this way.
Anyway, i forgot to mention that if You guys are interested. There is a possibility for group buy for the Porsche adapters shown in my previous post.
If we gather up enough purchasing power, i can try to get a batch made for a reasonable price.
Good idea ?

Those brackets look really nice. Have you tried flipping the cross pipe and bleeders yet? I wouldn't think it would be an issue, but you never know until you know. Keep up the good work!

Hello maxpossu,
In this picture, I assume that the caliper isn't fully positioned on the rotor here - it seems to be sitting high. Also, please confirm that the e-brake drum in this e38 rotor is fully compatible with the e28 e-brake. Correct?
Thanks! Let's not let this project die.

Oi Zeuropa,
Might be the camera angle playing tricks, but the fitment is spot on. Pls notice that the trailing arm is laying on the bench freely.
By e-brake drum, you mainly referring to the brake shoes? Yup, the assembly fits perfectly inside. Obviously you need to modify the dust shield. I have a picture of it i can upload
Im in the middle of caliper painting, so i can post few pics when they are finished and bolted on
