I'm guessing since there is no i at the end of 728, that this early E23 has a 4 barrel carb instead of EFI?
The bumpers are half the value of the car.

I always do a double take when the interiors look more like the E3 on an E23 than on the later cars.

This is a very well preserved 1985 BMW 728i with a 5-Speed manual transmission. It is a European version that BMW didn't import to the USA. This car was legally imported immediately after purchase in Germany. Original receipt from dealership in Germany and U.S. importing documents included. 89,000 original miles. I am only the second owner. Body/paint very good and original, interior excellent overall. I recently upgraded the wheels and tires. It now has BMW 540i 16inch alloys with brand new Continental DW tires (less than 500 miles). Original 14inch wheels/tires included. I replaced the battery and water pump within the last 2 months as well. Included with the vehicle sale is a set of brand new Bilstein struts/shocks ($500 value) that have not been installed. Engine runs strong, brakes amazingly capable.

That 728i was at a car lot in Tacoma for like $800 in 2012. Looked like a pretty nice car then. Not as clean but it had potential.

Definitely seems worth a closer look if it wasn't an $800 car for a reason. Too bad I'm not local, or it would be a major temptation. Have always thought that I would like an E23 and having one that matches the colors of my 518i would be neat.

thats a b28, the b32/34 has the motronic distributor, the b28 had the l-jet style distributor.

I might be a little off, but this car was up for sale about a year ago for about 8 grand. It was repainted by a father for his son to drive (looked like single stage paint). IIRC it came out of the midwest somewhere. The car sold to another kid in the south who didn't have it terribly long before he was looking to sell it again. I believe it was at vintage at the vineyard last year as well. Not sure if that person still owns it or if someone new has it now.

I'm a little leery of this car due to the really incorrect paint and extensive work done to it. I'm sure this thing needs some work. Notice how faded the trunk is? That was not like that a year ago when I saw the car for sale. Was probably sitting in the sun for a while.

I hope they get close to asking price on this car, its certainly a very clean looking example. I am really, really hoping interest in this chassis picks up as 80's BMW's become more popular.

The market is up so the people sitting on those cars are ready to unload them. I can't wait for the bottom to tank again (almost everything cycles) and then take advantage of that to buy into a potential investment oppt'y. In my dream world I'd have bought two ///M5s- one to drive and a low mile example to show and keep pristine.

I think the E30/28/24 market is driving these up as well.

This car was on FL craigslist forever (about $1500obo) before the current owner bought it, slapped some other wheels on it, and is asking $4500 or whatever. Wheels came off an '86 745i he bought cheap and parted. He also has a POS Ljet 745i for sale too with a bad turbocharger. Darko from BF looked over the bronzit car with intention to buy and skipped as it is a piece. Interior is dry as can be, ass end was sagging on the ground, it has been resprayed, and last time I saw the speedo it read about 130k. Many under hood bits have been changed out to rust free pieces. It has been on the Florida coast forever, be weary.



As for the now red 745i, David in Tennessee used to own it for years. Some kid bought it in Arkansas, drove it for a bit, then sold it to the current guy in North Carolina. Cheap respray, former velour interior car. Early Motronic i.e. 05/83+ production. I used to have the Autocheck for it. Expect plenty of hackery. Back seats do not even fit properly.

I think it has/had a trans problem due to a piss poor build by a bad shop last I can recall.



The blue '86 735i has been on CL for a while if it has the factory Magnetic Key alarm system.

Thought about buying this car the last summer when it went up for sale with the bad transmission.
This car was at the Vintage last year. That guy (who lived near Winston Salem) bought it at the beginning of last year and then sold it over the summer to the current owner. It had to be trailered (due to the bad transmission) then which makes me wonder what this guy did to be able to say "This car makes a great cruiser or daily driver" if it still has a transmission problem. From what I know as repeated before... it has a cheap respray and the back seats don't fit at all. I also heard that the back panel in the trunk had been hacked up for a sub. I don't know if this has been fixed since it happened but the previous owner had also hit a pothole causing the wheel to bend and something to happen with the strut assembly. I don't remember exactly what happened but just remember thinking how the hell could that happen. I'd just expect to put some money into it to get it the way you want it.
