Thank you.  Yes, I figured this out, based on the "arrow" mark.  This means from the block.  The other one to the heater core.  Thanks so much.

Honestly whichever is cheaper. Vemo is somewhat better quality in my experience. 
Here's a direct comparison of the two.

Hi guys,

This part number works perfectly with the E46 heater valve. I believe the part number says it's for the outer temp sensor, but it's the same.

I've bought a vemo-kit that comes with pins included, no soldering or hacking required. Set me back $12.

Does it matter which side you pin each wire on the connector?

Update: With the connector plugged in, I wired the yellow/green wire on the pin that's closest to the firewall and the brown/green wire on the other side and the system seems to be working great.
