This has all the typical markings of a shill bid that popped the price over the reserve. I would hesitate to buy a seller's "story".alpinass wrote:I spoke to the selller today. The 'winner' bidder for $25,123 has NOT had any communications with the seller - He was suppose to secure a $2,000 deposit within 48hrs. THis has not happen. Sounds like this guy is a FLAKE! WHY do people do this?

Benefitting by selling an e28 for big bucks is surely subjective in regards to the audience you speak to. As felt in the e30 M3 community....a phenomenal car that you could get for $10K has now gone to the stratosphere and many of us who wanted to have more than one car either can't afford it, or don't want to spend the money to play. There are pros and cons to having a chassis/series skyrocket. A few of the downsides, include having to get special, more expensive insurance.

Oh I totally think you are mistaken and way off base on your assumption of what EAG does, or understanding of the term, "Turn and Burn" for example. On your statement benefiting by selling a E28 for big bucks....seems to me that a rare car commands a higher price vs a plain jane E28. I also am one those Aholes that helped drive the price up on all E30 M3's by buying one in the high 30s because it was mint and had 31k original miles on it. The reason ? So I could sell it one day for 50+k and enjoy it a little. Hmm come to think of it same logic that I used when I bought my Alpina B7 #116 for around 16k over 8/9 years ago and dumped probably 20-25k into restoring it and now would not consider anything today under 45k to sell it....or the fact that I did the same thing when I bought 2 E28 M5s and sold one so I could have the better one from my needs...and nothing under 30k would entice me to sell.....so your statement:///Mflossin wrote:Wow what?GaAlpinaOwner wrote:Wow///Mflossin wrote:I don't think the intent was to bash Eric/EAG. "Benefitting by selling an e28 for big bucks is surely subjective in regards to the audience you speak to"....you are Goddamned Right and that is the way I want to keep this market....I do this because I luv the cars but I do it to help pay my kids college fund as well......oh and FYI the special insurance you make mention to.....cost me around 500 bucks ayear for all three cars with stated values at what I mention above....so IMHO I am selfish and see nothing but pros to my cars skyrocketing values
and thank goodness I deleted my first 2 responses.....
So Paul the this car is back available to sell? See I told you Ron...we are all flakes.....

With all due respect, I understand your perspective but surely you must also see where I am coming from? First and foremost, EAG is a business and they are in the business of making money and sustaining. I do not fault them for that nor am I judging "why" they do anything. I am simply being realistic and speaking from what I have seen and heard over time. I wish them nothing but continued success.
Talking about spending money on cars....you don't need to tell me about it...I have as much if not more than yourself invested over 4 cars, in which 80% of the work was performed by me. There are cars that I would never sell as well. I don't want to argue vantage points regarding ownership....that is simply foolish because we all own cars for different reasons.
Maybe to clarify, it doesn't "upset" me that values may or may not be going up ...I am just voicing my perspective in regards to being able to afford a few so I can have more than one to play with.
Shit...I hope your Alpina is worth $100K someday!
The bottom line here is that this Alpina is an opportunity for an enthusiast but any enthusiast with a sensitive brain will buy only what they think a car is worth. This car could be worth $50K to somebody and who am I to say anything. I bring my own perspective and that is all that I can say. WIth that said, I hope the car gets a great home and stays here in the states.

Back on the chopping block
My offer still stands - Anthony, Jesus and I can do a PPI for any board member that is SERIOUS about purchasing this ALPINA B7 Turbo.

ALPINA - HARTGE - etc...
California requires a BAR sticker (Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog) on car's that were NOT imported into the USA.
This is a expensive - lengthy process with NO Guarantee that it will be granted. It could come down to the CHP officer conducting the official inspection. If he/she got up on the wrong side of the bed....it all goes away and the expensives with it.
There are 'ways' around it...but I am not at liberty to say.
Best to register 'OUT OF STATE (cali).

Paul is absolutely right, but to correct or clarify one thing: the BAR Inspection and sticker was required on all cars not officially sold in the US by the manufacturer. All these cars were imported into the US but under the Grey Market system. This was a long a expensive process that, at that time, involved Federalizing the car to current US DOT standards (which seemed to vary depending on which shop did it), and in the case of CA, this BAR certification.
The only advantage with a car this old, is that it is now beyond the 25 year mark and no longer has to be Federalized (if it wasn't done originally). But here in California, you still have to Smog a vehicle if it's newer than 1974. So without one of these:

You're SOL in this state.
Paul's suggestion of out of state registration is the way to go. There is a surprising amount of cheap property right across the river in Arizona. If SMOG gets any tougher (by all accounts it will), I may be looking for somewhere in Yuma or Ehrenberg and get those really cool copper license plates for the M535.

This car has been Federalized. That's why it's missing the 300kph speedo.
Everyone Federalized the cars differently. Looks like the exhaust was kept in tact though, which to me suggests it was brought over after it was 5 years sold (cars older than 5 years were EPA exempt for a while). So, who knows how many miles are on it in that case. Would be sad to see the car have to be hacked up with a cat.
