Ouch. Fingers crossed for you!

so I bought the distributor from LMR.com. they are sending me a new distributor (same one ), a new arp cam bolt, cam dowel, and timing gaskets.

so its up to me to hopefully get this bolt out. ill be giving it a shot tonight or early next week. if it can come out ill keep going and probably do a leak down test, which means ill have to take off the intake and all the rockers since i cant spin it to close the valves. if the leakdown is bad then im probably over it.

if i cant get the bolt out ill continue with the leakdown and then if thats good MAYBE replace the cam since im practically there.

such a bizarre incident. ill be certain to inspect this new distributor. or ill just steal the pip sensor out of it and put it in my old distributor, which requires a press to get the gear and bushing off to replace. which is why i went with replacing the whole thing in the first place.

Seems similar to some of my issues with things not cooperating.

plan is to heat the blue loc tite on the cam bolt and hopefully easy out it. and then i saw some people drill and tapping the cam dowel and threading a bolt into it to thread it out kinda like how we do our trailing arm bushings

appears that I have lucked out. was sent all the parts needed to try to replace the bolt and dowel, did just that and its back in business. sounds healthy again.

tiiiiiny update on this because the engine bay got a little better looking. its been running great, just tough to find an excuse to drive it because its so rowdy and makes you smell like exhaust haha. hopefully soon ill get some good photos of the two e28s together.

I picked up some vintage holley valve covers and refinished them along with the intake in black. it also got some deka 60# injectors since the stock 19# injectors were approaching too high of duty cycle.

through the end of last month I spend a good deal of time getting this thing prepped to actually drift for the first time.
my subframe bushings were totally shot so I dropped the whole thing in about 45 minutes. i dont have parking brake cables so its all pretty quick.

I also did those diff mount studs you see like condor and other shops sell, but race german has a stronger stud version I chose. condor advertises them to fit e30, e28, e36 318ti & BMW Z3 however only the lower studs will fit. the upper ones will run into the body before you can mount your diff at its cover mount. 2 studs are still helpful for installing the diff just dont be disappointed when you get to use half the kit, maybe share it with someone

did the sawzall and hamer/punch method and had both sides out in under 10 minutes probably. powerflex 2 piece bushings go in nice and easy. also did new dogbones

after 7 years one of my hockey puck mounts looks like its seen enough heat, that got replaced.

I also swapped from a 1" bore willwood clutch master cylinder to a 7/8th and it made the pedal feel much nicer.

and we hit the track! I have no good photos of any action. just a few videos from friends. but it went about how you'd expect a first time to go.

car was getting a little warm with no name fans and no shroud so I ditched the hood for a bit.

I hit a big tractor tire and wheelied, pushed my front end over just a bit. only nasty water front the tire shot up and I thought I punctured my radiator but thankfully not. also kissed the wall and did a little quarter damage as well as damage to a euro bumper I paid next to nothing for and knocked a tail light out. no hard feelings on either incident.

you and I both! thing definitely doing get driven enough. it just gets parked and left on the street. the other day I noticed someone had thrown a slice of american cheese on the car. I was upset but also laughed. it was rock hard and needed scrapped off with a razor blade.

Well, as it stands this car no longer has a ford v8 in it.

this car had a longer life on the road than it should have, I'll be using the shell for development of my next challenge but this car wont see the road again. debating on starting a new thread for whats to come but we'll see.

decided we'll just keep the build here for now. between this cars slightly tweaked frame and all the rust, this thing has be due for off road retirement. the idea of running an m30 using a terminator x entered my brain a few months ago and I couldnt shake it.

itching for my next challenge, last month I picked up an m30b35 from an e32. the plan will be to cut and repin the holley harness to create a full stand alone harness from c101 to c103 as cleanly as possible. sequentially firing LS coils, the 60# injectors from the 302, an MRT engineering hall effect cam signal, stock VR signal crank. looking into turbo manifold options and leaning towards cast kangaroo.

holley being so familiar with GM products and having seen people have success with flipping the throttle body using a GM/LS throttle body, adding the proper wiring for IAC and throttle position is straight forward.

small update, got some parts coming in so I can actually begin working. I have a kangaroos manifold and a pulsar 3576 with a .82ar, and a pulsar 45mm wastegate. the motor I picked up has less than ideal compression numbers. I'm not sure if a valve adjustment would net me 100psi in gains but they're all about 75psi or lower. valves have a lot of carbon build up. anticipating a top end rebuild/cleanup at least.

I'm fortunate enough to have summit racing about 25 minutes north of me so over the weekend I picked up all of the 16ga 304ss that I'll need to make the downpipe which is my first task. I'm not much of a welder but I picked up a band saw from harbor freight, hoping I'm able to cut and prep pieces at my house, and my friend just around the block will be sticking them together. 





I have this first bend section cut out but not tacked, and I felt like I needed to throw an update up to get things rolling.

3" v band outlet. starting with a little bend to move out from the strut tower and it kicks out just after the 3rd spark plug.
 



 

considering the fact that this motor has low compression, and my b34 in my 535is has blue devil coming out of the head (still runs fine). my best bet may be to mock it all up in the rusty car and then just throw the head/intake and 1.3 motronic parts on my b34 so I can have a lower compression ratio for boost

downpipe update. I've got the wastegate recirculation section cut and prepped and ready to weld. I will throw the v band on the end of the downpipe when it comes time to make the full exhaust/when its in a car with a transmission and I have a better idea what I want. but more than likely its ready to go right on the end as is. pretty happy with how this came out, never done any exhaust work or fabrication like this. the bauer band saw from harbor freight has been nice.
  





 

Been a minute since I've updated but I've been busy so I've got a good little update,

found the treatstone intercooler I was already eying locally new on facebook from someone that buys amazon pallets, score.

made an adapter for a m52tu hall effect crank sensor to the b35 bracket

cut up a b34 intake for the LS1 drive by cable, welded on an ICT billet 3 bolt flange, and made a flange for the LS3 map sensor and intake air temp sensor. also designed a m30 throttle block off plate made by send cut send, for what it cost and how nice it was, it was less than I could have bought the material for and wasted my time in the garage.
 


 

I also designed this LS3 ignition coil bracket, its .07 SS from send cut and I bent it myself.

 

 

charge pipe also is mostly tacked but all mocked up. for the flipped throttle I put a slit in the bracket of an m20 steering reservoir to turn it away from the throttle inlet. ill fill in the gap when i have the reservoir mount in the red car. this car had it cut out long ago. motion raceworks catch can mounted to the support bosses. trying to decide if i want the blow off valve straight on or off to the side.


 


 



 


 


 

today I received the aluminum printed parts from china I designed and tested in PLA to make a coolant expansion strut bar.  they came out really nice and it will get put together very soon. originally I made the top hat to be welded layers of sheet aluminum that could be put together by lining up the notches but 3D printing them wasn't too bad of a price.

I'm working on making a wiring diagram to make the harness a little more organized and to keep for my own records.
