The m10 5speed TPS is the same as the m30b35 5speed tps

Some pics.
M30B32
Early M30B35. Head is stamped '87
M30B35. Head is stamped '89
As you can see the early b35 looks almost identical to the m30b32/m30b34. Aside from the obvious differences, it has virtually the same block casting design. It uses the same oil pan along with the alternator/power steering mount as the b32/b34. Notice the block of the later b35, it's a different casting design with a different oil pan. I thought this was interesting.

The question I have is will a m30 b34 HEAD fit on a m30 b35 bottom end? What will the c/r be? Anyone done this"?

I'm replacing a cracked oil pan on my '88 535iS M30 b34 and noticed the block has the threaded bosses that permit early, E28, or later E32/34 mounts to bolt on...I had only heard of these blocks being in E24s.
Apparently some '88 E28s also had blocks with both mounting patterns.

Thanks bimmerguy for the excellent post. I just keep learning differences - I did not know the AFMs were different.
Is the internal dia different? What other things are different?

Also, if you are running a 4hp22eh you will need to make an adapter for the c238 connector beside the ecu in the glove box.. I am in this process now..

this is gonna be a great swap.
I just picked up my M30B35 out of an E32 last week. Going to start stripping it down soon and sending parts off to get hotanked/beatblasted/powdercoated etc. for $250 including the AC and alternator I can't go wrong
The biggest thing I wanted to know what was 1.3 harness to use, as mine was a bit dryrotted and beat up (not to mention my friend cut it when they yanked it out of the donor car he had, they used it for body panels to resurrect his own E32), so im most likely going to purchase it brand new from the dealer (always helps to have a sick discount there too)
im going to run that part number tomorrow and see what price it comes up with..

you dont wanna buy a harness new....you can use an e34 or e32 non eml, or a super eta e28 harness.

If your swapping a b35 into a 533i and want to use the b35 p/s pump. You need:
32411132526 (e28 535i pressure line)
32411127343 (e28 535i return connector)
As well as a slightly longer return hose, the 535i one works perfectly.

So, I have a b34 in my e30 with B34 specific swap mounts..If I get that adapter I can re-use them with the b35??

Hello! I bought an m30b35 engine with "all" electrics and 4hp22 automatic. Engine is from E32 it`s the newest 1.3 motronic and the car where i am mounting it is 518i.
We made the motor brackets last night, and now we are making the gearbox bracket.
Problem is joining m10 fusebox and other electrics with the e32 harness together. i am wondering if the roundconnector to engine is same in all m30b35 engines so i can wacth the pin places from pic what is ment for e34 change to e30 318i..
Or is here anybody who has done same job what i am doing.

Anyone know if the ECU from an Auto (the 88) will work if swapped into my 5-speed E28?

I finally got my temp gauge working on my b35 by using the sender off of a b34 engine. The resistances are different, and "switching the wires" on the b35 sender won't do jack... The b34 sender is has different resistances and a spade style connector. It uses the block for ground where as the b35 has a separate wire for ground, that believe to be one of the MANY leftover wires when using the E34 B35 harness that don't get hooked up to anything.
Anyway, works good now, and the b35 is freakin awesome!

I know this is an old thread, but, I would like to thank Brad and all the others that have contributed to this really valuable thread.
I put a B35 in my 83 533 this weekend and it fired up on the first try. Really amazing given the changes involved.
One area that still seems a little sticky is the mounting of the new b35 airbox. It doesn't quite fit easily. Any details on what others have done with that?

I am getting ready to do the B35 upgrade swap. I have over 350K on my '87 is. My engine is old and tired. Prius' are passing me effortlessly. Anyway, are there any other affordable (simple) options for the exhaust manifold other than the stock B34 version? I can't afford to do anything custom. Maybe there is a thread that I have missed? Since I am going to do this very soon I don't want to restrict the B35 engine with the smaller B34 exhaust manifold, if possible. Thanks for all your help so far!

sorry im a bit lost, can you use the b35 oil pan with the b34 alt and ps pump as long as you use the b34 mounting bracket? or do you need to use the b34 oil pan to mount the b34 mounting bracket?
