Ok, if we're going there, what about MFH and SFH. Not to mention the completely unrelated RCH as a unit of measurement.

BBW = Big Blue Wrench. Up in the areas where things rust, it's an essential tool!

Oh, and in terms of RCH - surely e28s aren't that precise, are they?

Hmmm. Would that be the same as a flame wrench?

Well not to everyone, but I bet there's some that are that exacting. ;)

Posted in the body of a message, it signifies a "bump" to push the thread/topic to the top of the list.

I dont think VTEC is a BMW acronym and VANOS is only for timing of the camshaft.
VTEC is honda. Variable Valve Timing Engine Control ingenious invention but eurosport is way better lol.

Well, if it doesn't mean what we think it means, are you going to tell us what YOU think it means? :dunno:

If it's something truly rude/insulting, I don't see how it belongs in this thread.

I believe it's Continuously Variable Transmission.

This is a Most Excellent Resource, my friend!
[+1 as sticky; maybe in Tech FAQ?]

What about fuse box abbreviations; some of those are pretty weird-ass.

NB: There is an online resource defining a HUGE range of acronyms, "acronymfinders" dot com, I find it useful. Good way to waste a day or an hour... if you have the time.

Here's one to get you started- ZIP, as in postal ZIP Code: (Zone Improvement Plan)

I'll do some research.

Glad it's helpful to others, it all gets confusing to me at times.

Thanks for the list. Yes, should be a sticky somewhere. Maybe break out the auto or at least BMW speak from things like YMMV which is in general non-automotive use.

My addition is perhaps a bit old school

VOM = Volt Ohm Meter

Dates back to the days of analog meters. Sort of like old English I guess today but in the mid 80's it was common vernacular. I work with a bunch of EEs where it's still commonly used even though we don't have an analog VOM anywhere in the company. The Fluke meters we have would more correctly be call DMM or Digital Multi-Meter. Most common slang no matter what we are checking is, "where's the volt meter".

Is this thread supposed to replace Google or something? I Google the acronyms. This thread has yet to pop up there.
