I met the owner a few weeks ago, and am surprised he's selling; it sounded like he was pretty pleased with the car & even bought my spare passenger seat to repair/replace the seat in it that had a broken base. The car used to belong to mrdane, who sold it for $1,100. No idea where the $3,500 price came from; he mentioned he had done a few things to it, but not $2,000 worth.

It has the 4.0 Liter V8 with a 6 speed manual transmission.

It needs a fan / alternator belt, and a radiator hose reconnected. Other items needing repairs: power windows, power seats, gas gauge.

Fast, fun car to drive, gets 23 mpg.

1998 BMW 540i 6-speed manual transmission. Hard to find especially this clean. It only has 130k. Extremly well cared for. When you drive it you will see that it feels like brand new. For Sale: 2000 BMW M5. This sedan comes standard with a manual 6 speed transmission, 5.0 liter v-8 engine, and 400 horsepower. The M5 is one of the fastest production sedans in history. This car has been well maintained and taken care of and has a clean car-fax. I have put on new 19" black staggered rims (Do not have original rims) and 4 new tires last October. There is still plenty of tread left. There are no known mechanical problems or odd noises, and the car drives extremely well and smooth. These cars are known for their longevity and are known to easily reach 200k miles assuming it is taken care of. This M5 has just below 96,500 miles. I have driven this car on a daily basis for the last 2 and ½ years and since 64,000 miles, and it has been nothing but a reliable and incredibly fun car to drive. If you want speed, awesome handling, an incredible suspension, and a head-turner for a very reasonable price, then this is it.

As you can see in the pictures, you can tell that the interior has been kept in great condition. Of course there will be normal wear and tear (no actual tears) due to the amount of time spent in this car, but there are no stains, rips, etc. There is also normal road rash associated with the mileage as there would be on any car. As you can also tell from the pictures, a lot of the pixels on the dash have died. This is apparently a common problem amongst BMW's from this era, but you can still read and figure out the mileage, and any warning indicators such as the "Washer Fluid Low" in the picture.

As you can also notice, the check engine light is on. I had my mechanic check this out and the problem is that 2 of the CAM sensors need to be replaced. The con to this, is that it will cost a few hundred dollars to fix and will need to be taken care of before the next required emissions inspection which isn't until 2013. The pro, is that there isn't anything that is actually mechanically wrong. The CAM sensors take readings of the emissions being released. Because the CAM sensors have gone bad, it will automatically prompt the check engine light to show even though there isn't any actual issue with the car beyond the needed replacement of the sensors. I have already replaced the other 2 sensors a year ago that first went bad, but my mechanic stated that there was a high probability that the other 2 would also go bad not long after. You would've course be welcome to take this car to a mechanic if interested in purchasing.

Kelly Blue Book and Edmund's value this car in FAIR condition in the $14k-$15k range. I have this priced at $12,999 to cover the expense of the CAM sensor replacement as well as the inconvenience of having it taken care of and any other minor unknown issues that may be prevalent. Please also read the reviews for the 2000 M5 by Motor Trend at http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sed ... ewall.html.

If you do your due diligence, you will see that this car has a consumer rating of 5 stars out of 5 stars. The only negative comment you will see is about the cup holders. I will admit, the cup holders suck. But you aren't buying this car for the cup holders.

An E39 M5 with just one cam position sensor bad runs like crap...probably easily down 100+hp if not more. It idles like a hot-cammed V8 with a bad CPS too. It is down on low rpm torque and feels lethargic. I would doubt this owner has been driving the car like that, but you never know.

This car probably needs the typical E39 M5 needs at the mileage (MAFs x 2, fuel filter, spark plugs, all four CPS, primary O2 sensors, etc..).

86 535 i/ 5 speed, E28 with M30B34 engine. odo quit working shows 211k but still runs very well. needs paint, muffler (I have a new one just haven't installed yet). I picked up four used Alpina springs and Bilstiens for it, uninstalled go with the car. Clean interior. Metric rims changed out, now runs 15". very fun to drive. Straight body llines, no big dents or known accidents. I have maintenance records that go back to at least 2001. All standard pwr options, windows/locks/seats/moon roof. The only reason I'm selling is due to an upcoming move. $1100 OBO.
