Honda Kid that wants an e28

Heres the deal, i have become known as the Honda kid. I don't like it. so i decided to do something about it. My brother had an e28 a few years ago and i fricken loved it. So, I decided its time to grow up and move up to the world of BMW and do away with my Honda and the collection of parts i have accumulated for it.

Why am i telling you all this you ask? Because i want to know more about E28's, that's why.
I would be looking to spend 4-6 thousand dollars on the car and would do plenty of looking and researching before i bought it. This is something Ive never really put alot of effort into with past cars so this time i want to do it right.

sooo, my questions for you guys are this:

1.Whats the best E28? (aside from an m5, obviously) my plan with my civic was a swap, a cage, decent breaks, sticky tires and to track it. I know that with my brothers car, it was about two months short to have a computer that was chip-able/or tune-able. So, in your opinion, what is the best year/trim level/ etc E28?

2. How track friendly are these cars? anyone who knows anything about Hondas knows that they are moderately cheap to track and fun around corners with the proper suspension and what not. I'm not wanting a completely gutted track rat, but something i can drive to and from the track, enjoy on the track, and enjoy cruising around in with my buds on a Friday night.

3. What kind of power adders are out there? i know the s50/e30 is incredibly popular and fees-able for about 6k, but e30's dont get it for me like an e28! i know there are turbo set ups using seven series parts and some aftermarket companies that offer turbos and even 1jz swaps so to be popular. So, aside from these things, anyway that an M30 can make a bit more power?
(my neighbor has a six speed 850 that i could probably snag for 800 bucks which would be nasty, any info on a v12 e28? )

4. And lastly, do these tanks make good track cars? they are a bit larger compared to my 1990 Honda civic hatchback and a bit more on the heavy side. are there brake options? suspension options? so fourth and so on?

Well, you're right about that part. Mainly for the spelling. Fees-able?

You can track an E28 and it will do great. For your budget and uses, find the best, latest 535i you can find. 535i or 535is doesn't matter; the only difference is the sport seats and body kit at this point. The stock Bilsteins are all long dead. Put in decent shocks and springs, upgrade to E32/E34 brakes all around, maybe a shorter limited-slip diff, and go. Stock power is more than enough to learn on, and anything that makes real power will cost you more than the car.

If you can grab an 8er for around $600, turn around and sell it. Can you say 1000% profit margin? Just my thought.

There have been a few posts lately on e28s as track cars, drifters, etc... try the search. While you may be aware of it, I'm not sure you're using it.

They're tanks, but remarkably well balanced tanks. They handle pretty well, especially after you distribute the weight a little more.

Welcome to the board, leave your Honda knowledge and sense of pricing at the door.. it will do you no good here.

A 535i or is is probably the best starting platform for a performance car. The is variant was mostly cosmetic, and emphatically engine/transmission were the same. Plenty of suspension upgrades available. A bit large as you noted, but really plenty trackable, there are a number here who do so, pretty successfully. Turbo is expensive, but definitely doable, and relatively reliably too. One of our own, TCD has a turbo business. Big brakes are easy and cheap. Do at least some searching or else several will give you a hard time.

R134a will never cool your stock e28 to your satisfaction. It's probably the SI board. If your tool kit is complete it is not to be touched; only shown off.

Buying a car won't help you grow up. I recommend you cut off any support your parents are giving you. Go explore the world, experience things outside your microcosm. Go places where you know your comfort level will be encroached upon, socialize with people who will unabashedly force you into situations you'd never find on your own. Make mistakes, then learn from them. Get the most blue collar job you can possibly find, and learn what it is to be humble. Donate your time to a charitable organization to learn humility. Find someone who can challenge you mentally, so you can learn concentration and focus. Teach someone, so that you can learn patience. Learn a trade. Learn sadness, learn hope, learn pain, sorrow, happiness, camaraderie, honor, fear, bravery, loyalty, loss, victory, achievement, hardship, triumph, rhetoric, deceit, fallacy, logic.

Good luck, dude. My recommendation is to look for a B35 swapped 535i that already has some suspension mods, that would be a perfect start if you want a "track-able" daily driver.

while most of that made no sense to me, thanks for all the responses.

When I said grow up, I guess I meant that generally people consider Hondas as more of a stepping stone into the automotive world and I just want something different. I guess a crowd that could give two hoots about JDM and fanbois so to speak.

The 8 series i mentioned is pretty rough so it would be hard to turn a profit. However, it is all complete.

From here, i am going to invest alot of time in the search button. This was great though and i do appreciate the help!
