What did you do to your E28 today?

Actually got to drive my "new" car for the first time (!) to get the emissions inspection done to get tags next week. Typical for Georgia -

1. You must pass an emissions inspection in order to get a tag.
2. You must drive to the emissions inspection station to get the car inspected.
3. You cannot drive the car on the roads without tags (and no, they don't have "temp tags" - I stopped by the DMV to ask.)
4. See #1 above.

It's like an endless loop in a Fortran program. Yes, I'm that old.

I stuck a piece of paper on it that read "tag applied for" and took up the highway for a quick run to see how it went, got gas, had it inspected and home in about an hour. Only saw one officer and he was in front of me

Changed the engine oil & filter today at 196K.
Went back to dino sauce after having developed some weeping, possibly from 4K of Mobil 1 15W/50 (it's first synthetic).
Used 20W/50; added 4 oz ZDDP and 8 oz Seafoam.
Replaced the K&N air filter with the Mann variety.

New antenna mast and rebuilt power drive unit, sort of. The drive sprocket was not making contact with feed sprocket. A little creative engineering and voila, 22 year old power antenna works again. Nice to have everything, "ok", almost everything working again.

Washed and parked her inside the garage. The garage is 75% completed, still need new roof, sliding, bathroom remodel, replace inside wall studs, garage floor tiles, and etc...

Cool......but sounds like you still have a lot to do, I am guessing 50% done

At least the 5'er is safe and sound inside. Have fun with the project.

Yes, I am having fun with the project, especially since this is the first time that I ever did this type of work. As I said before, learning as I go along...I guess 50% is more accurate.

already removed: seats, carpet, sound deadening. checked and found leaks for front windsheild, heaterbox, other firewall gaskets. tail light gasket also leaks, starting leatherique on front seats, need also both rear window regulators. going to weld in some new metal once leaks are fixed.

preparing to drop tranny, fix output shaft tranny seal, possible input seal too, fix rear main seal for motor, install m5/533 flywheel while in there,

fix front main seal for motor, refresh shifter parts, replace cooling equipment (water pump, thermostat etc), change timing belt, check valve train, may go ahead and pull the head (waiting on compression check/leakdown test to decide that)

You may say, "is this dudebro insane?," the answer is, "yes." However, i cant drive my car anyway right now because of government crap ( read post at top of page and multiply problems by 3). SOOOOO... may as well rip the thing a new one and make it nice while it sits.

Installed a US engine wiring harness on the e23, scraped off stupid sticker in the windows and on the rear valance and trunklid. Removed the automatic flex plate, prepared for installing the lightweight flywheel and clutch, realized I didn't have a pilot bearing. Ordered the pilot bearing, tomorrow she should run!

If you're wondering what the "KTMP" thing is, I found the routine on unlocking the OBC so I can display various information that normally doesn't show up. She's officially broken in.

(Note : Aware of the Check engine light, and the traction control is almost always turned off on nicer days)

Got up early this morning and gave it a good bath, inside and out.

Also, put on my new to me 17" M countour wheelset I bought off the local craigslist. Man, what a deal those were. An ATI replica originally purchased for an E34 540i, wrapped in a practically new set (3 months old) of Conti extreme conacts, 235/45's . And only $200 to boot.

Not sure I enjoy the 17's and how they ride but figured that would be the case. But for the price I couldn't pass on them.

Got the driveline swap finished on the e23 and GOT IT RUNNING! Finally! Had to go to the wayback machine and get shifty's wiring since oo00oo.com is gone now.
