Fuel Injector Upgrades for E28/1984 533i

Post by LookoutDC »

Hi Folks,

In the process of rebuilding heads on a 1984 E28 533i and in the process of replacing other parts including the fuel injectors.

I was wondering if there is any benefit from going from the 2 pintle to 4 pintle, increasing the PSI, going with Mustang injectors, or should I just get stock injectors or get mine cleaned/rebuilt? I have read various opinions on it but most stating that the ECU is not sophisticated enough to make adjustments for "upgraded" injectors to make a difference.

Including, do I need to be aware of low vs high impedance/ohm's?

The car does have a mildly upgraded camshaft, 270 and headers with a Y-pipe if that would make any difference.

Thanks,

The 533i uses low impedance injectors, the mustang injectors are high impedance. The flow rate is significantly greater than the later B34 injectors too, though I can't remember the exact figure.

With stock motronic I think your best option by far is the stock injectors. If they're not leaking or clogged, run em.

And they have plenty of capacity, they're the same ones as used on M5s. Send them out for cleaning maybe, but I agree with Dan, no need for anything else.
