20mph steering wheel vibration

Post by Freight »

After replacing my guibo, and diff mounts; I was left with a slight 20ish mph vibration. CSB felt solid, driveshaft is smooth and I regressed it for good measure so I did the trans mounts. This smoothed things up significantly, almost no vibration anymore. Still a subtle, sometimes (75% of the time) 20mph vibration that felt like it was under my butt. Okay, CSB it is…except that it’s only happening sometimes, never when turning, and seemingly random and untied to acceleration. Isolated(mostly) to 2nd gear, 18-21 or so mph. Except….

the vibration wasn’t in the steering wheel….until now. It has slowly began moving forward in the car, as insane as that sounds. The vibration is no longer really felt through the seat, and is coming from further forward now, mainly felt/seen in the steering wheel. It’s still very subtle, but it has genuinely shifted forward in the car and is no longer feeling similar to the guibo area as it used to. Could this be motor mounts? Sometimes at low speed, like first gear, clutching in feels like clunky as load is taken off the driveline. Given everything else is new, gottta be MM right? Could they be causing this weird up front isolated steering wheel vibration?

It does sound like driveshaft related vibration. Only thing I can think of is the crankshaft and diff axes are no longer parallel and that is causing your vibration. Maybe new motor mounts will restore the alignment, idk.

I did preload the csb according to the Bentley, but perhaps!

I guess I’ll give the mounts and see how things shake out
