What did you do to your E28 today?
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Stainless steel brake lines, big brake conversion.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
purchased an 8" sub to make an under seat enclosure thanks to the thread on here, got my diff rebuilt with all new seals & bearings, also a new crankcase breather hose.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Rebuilt my 43 year old heater valve. Diaphragm was hard as bakelite and didn't want to come out. Also my 10 year old Wahler Thermostat was sticky and lazy and got replaced. I dumped it in hot water and remained shut for 10-20 seconds (i looked away and then found it fully open). The new one opened instantly.

Got my M535i out of the garage for the first time this year, and the leaves on the trees are finally popping out. Two sure signs spring is here.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Got my windshield wiper fluid sprayers working. Ordered new hood insulation retaining screws.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
installed some extra spring pads in the rear of my m5 a few weeks ago, to attempt to correct the reverse rake. can't wait to change out the Spax springs for something else.
it's currently my only daily drivable car while the e39 is off to the body shop. been a long time since i've regularly driven it so i'm glad to bond with it again.

I cleaned my 524td up a bit today. Installed new oem floor mats and new roundels on the hood and trunk. (The old hood roundel is better quality btw).
Here is what an original full size spare looks like. 1984 date code. Made in west Germany.

I’m restoring this 1984 524td. It had a lot of paint fade on the roof and trunk. No clear coat. In an effort to try to save the original paint I decided I’m going to clear coat it. Today I restored all the black trim and finished the 1st coat and will be applying a second coat of clear tomorrow and then ceramic the following day. I also finished refinishing an oem early 80’s e28 Decklid spoiler, so that will be going on once I’m done with the paint restore. I’m very pleased with the results thus far.

Looks great!!

No clear coat from the factory? That's a huge win. What color is it, it looks like Burgundrot, which on the ones I've seen does have clearcoat.
Looks good whatever.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Yes it is Burgundrot, which has factory clear coat. But the clear was chipping in areas. The roof and trunk were especially bad with paint fading and no clear. So I wet sanded and applied a coat of clear and then wet sanded and applied another coat of clear. In a few days I’m going to wet sand again and ceramic coat. Most people would have gotten a paint job. My goal was to try to preserve and keep original paint. So I decided to redo the clear coat and keep my fingers crossed that I bring it back to life. Still need to touch up some areas with touch up paint before doing a ceramic coat. But so far I’m pleased with the results. The car is presentable now, less than 400 in products and several hours of my time saved me 5k on a paint job and more importantly, the car retains its original paint.

Actually I did something like this 10 years ago and it came out pretty well. It looked good when I was done. Not as good as yours looks, which is great, but good. And I thought I was the only one crazy enough to try to reclear something! viewtopic.php?f=3&t=131715328dabi wrote: May 21, 2025 1:52 AMMike W." wrote: May 21, 2025 1:23 AM

That’s actually really good. And a great write up.
