Brad's writeup is spot on and still applies today, especially if you are using a Megasquirt. Saying that it's antiquated while wanting to run a MS makes less sense. The updates in firmware and TS have only made it easier to tune.
The wiring is straight forward and you can replace most of the harness with the DiY flying leads. If you're running an MS3x then your injector wiring will be updated to use sequential injection, just to name one aspect of installing a stand alone controller. Same goes for ignition. Surely you wouldn't run the stock distributor.
All the info you need is here, just because it's old doesn't mean it's obsolete.

Re: E28 Megasquirt FAQ
I'm not really sure where the aggression is coming from. I'm looking for
Documentation about a full harness build for the MS3 and Motronic engines
Feedback about the E28Goodies MS2-based PNP system
Feedback about AMP EFI's MS3-based systems for MT engines
None of this is covered anywhere in this thread, or any thread on these forums. Didn't mean to offend.

Re: E28 Megasquirt FAQ
No aggression in what I read^^ from Mike.
Just there isn't detail on buying a kit because megasquirt was intended originally to be a diy solder and build kit. Really this thread isnt about exploring what completed standalone options are available or possible, as much as it is about the details necessary to use adapt and operate the engine of an e28 on megasquirt. I actually agree 100% with Mike's comments-- it may take a bit of research and diy attitude to get a working solution depending what system you want to run and what feature set you want for megasquirt and an e28.
I cant tell if you are expecting a 40 year old car to have an off the shelf megasquirt solution or if you hoped that there would be documentation that may exist likr for e30s. Get one of the 55pin ms2/3 units and convert your car to the 55pin m1.3 harness and then it will be the most plug and play possible...
you still need iat sensor and wiring adaptations and tuning settings as described in this thread.
I would say thay documentation for a ms3 kit onto a motronic 1.0a engine doesnt exist, but maybe it's somewhere on the internet.
