ISO: Photos of Supersprint setup on a M30B35-swapped E28

Post by Foonfer »

I'm opening a request for photos of the underside of your M30 car with a full Supersprint exhaust setup:

header (Supersprint #781401)
"front exhaust" (SS #781582) --- is this the "resonator" --?--
"centre exhaust" (SS#781523) --- or is this one the "resonator" --?--
rear muffler (SS #781626)

If you can show or point to your location of O2 sensor(s), even better.

If you have the Supersprint cat (SS #781532), or any other catalytic converter, that's of course OK too.

Thanks in advance! -F

It`s not the same exact combination you want, but I hope it gives an idea

Thanks uzayas, that setup looks very very clean and well done. As you say it's not exactly what I asked for, but close. At least you have the SS#781523 part, the one Supersprint calls the "centre exhaust".

That figure next to the gearbox, is that an "X-pipe"? How do you like the whole thing, does it flow well? Also, the wrapping of the headers with that insulation, wow.

There are no issues with the exhaust flow.

However, I still hear a bit of bass, especially at idle speed, but overall, I’m satisfied.

I'm not sure if we can share links via Instagram, but in the attached link, you'll find three videos:
one of a cold start, one at idle, and one with a bit of throttle so you can listen to the exhaust sound.

Thanks uzayas, I saw the videos. What I like about the sound is how smooth it is. No popping, no pauses, just fluid. That is exactly what I need to achieve with mine.

This is the "before" photo in the plastic surgeon's website.  The bad setup.  Front is to the right, rear is to the left.

There's Supersprint stuff to the right of the photo (downtube with the O2 bung, and headers further upstream) and to the left of the photo (the rear muffler).  And in the middle... there's those ugly cans.  They didn't even use the factory hanging points, and cobbled together some new ones.  Why.

And now the plastic surgeon's "after" photos.  There are a couple scars, it's not 100%, but it is all Supersprint now.  Starting from the front, all the way down to the back.  This system doesn't only sound better, it -and I'm not BSing you- FEELS better.  Feels like it flows better.  It is hard to describe.  Oh, and system is supported from the original hanging points.
To reiterate the components present here,
header (Supersprint #781401)
"front exhaust" (SS #781582)
"centre exhaust" (SS#781523)
rear muffler (SS #781626)

It looks great. I hope the sound is as you wanted. I would like to hear how the tube silencers affected the sound at idle.

The sound with the "before" setup was gravel-like.  You could hear the engine spinning smoothly but the exhaust was not a reflection of that, with weird pops and clicks that sounded out of sync.

The "after" setup still sounds throaty but much smoother, like an extension of what the engine is doing... and for some reason the whole car's engine response feels smoother.

No noticeable "drone" as far as I can tell, but everyone knows these cars aren't quite caught up on soundproofing...
